New project: is no website better than a bad website?

Some of you will have heard about the "What's Best for Britain" project fronted by Gina Miller. (Crowdfunder here).
I've just had an email asking for money and help, and I was moved to check out their website (https://bestforbritain.org/ taken from the email).

I appreciate that they've only just started and it takes a good while to set up a properly slick website, but is it better to throw up something quickly while you're working on it, or is it better to not have one?

If it was me, I would throw a forum on there to begin with: give the punters a means to start participating right away, and add the polish later but I'd be the first to admit that marketing is not my strong point. Confused

All I got was something that asked for password, so yes, as it is tied in with an election in just over a months time, I would say get something up. She must have a friend who can knock up a website of some sort in a day or so, and often the simple ones work as well as the slick ones.

I'd expect a basic landing page with name, event, list of main points. Even if it only replicates a leaflet, you know? Forums invite trolls.

check back seems sensible.

as a general principle a basic website with some basic info is easy and a good start. adding bells and whistles can be done as need arises and time passes.

a bad website is only one step up from a ratner moment as it repels folk from the cause it is supposed to promote and indicates a lack of competence at the most basic levels.

all the above applies to this example as much as is does to buying a pair of boots or organising a village green management group.

that seems to be clear, simple, has well considered graphics and well stated aims and objectives.

much better than it isn't strong and stable and brexit means blue unicorns or brexit means red unicorns but we wont have enough MP's to run a unicorn stable so we will help them give you blue unicorns or there are no unicorns but our yellow rabbits are very nice and only need a small hutch.

I would still like to see a good discussion platform on there. Nick

That may be why they haven't got one. (My bold and italics).

I'm flattered.
