Next question about wooden floorsI want to get a quote from someone to tidy, sand and polish a floor but I cannot find anyone locally who advertises such a service. Someone who specialises in this could do it quickly, cleanly and well. It's a long shot but does anyone any suggestions? I might also try some of the numbers Gervase has given me and ask them.

There's no great skill involved so I'm not sure about the "quickly, cleanly and well" bit compared to how anyone could do it.
It is a mucky, noisy, job but if you're dressed for it that's ok! And just think of the satisfaction.

Try BSW in Barmouth on 01341 280825 or 07876 666911. I've not used them myself, but they specialise in floor sanding and renovation.

You could hire a sander from a tool hire shop and diy- thats what we did to the upstairs of our house. It is not as difficult as you imagine and the power rotory sanders are almost self propelled. You hold them back. Ionce switched it on when it was on and it shot across the room !

Thank you, I have done that on other floors. It is heavy, dusty work for an amateur but quite possible. However I need someone who can do a floor with black stain around the edges, some floor boards that will need sorting out a little and some gaps and will not make very much mess on the expensive ish (well it seemed it to me having never bought wallpaper before now) wallpaper and freshly painted walls. Apparently if I hire the right person this is perfectly possible.
