No mushroomsUpon my many wanders round the woods and heathland near where I life I have managed to find many items of forrage, haws, sloes, rosehips, elderberries, blackberries and a few others. But despire lots of searching I have found no mushrooms.
What sort of places should I be looking for edible mushrooms? It would appear there are non in the obvious places...

Looks like a record year of nothing for wild mushrooms this year for Thetford forest.I live one minute away from the forest, walk my dog there ,and look about 4-5 times a week.Apart from a few ceps and a hand full of char. burners in early July I have got nothing in 5-6 weeks. The comb. of heat wind and lack of moisture has meant that this seasons mush. season is virtually cancelled by the weather.Yesterday I saw two russ. xerambelina and a dyads saddle on a lime, thats it!!!!!

Well, even though we've had hardly any rain for weeks (New Forest) I got about 1.5kg of mushrooms on Monday. Almost 1kg of Ceps and the rest mainly Saffron Milk Caps (Lactarius deliciosus)

On the other hand we have had almost non stop rain since early August.
Nature is rotting from the top down and any mushrooms trying to put their head above ground drown within days. The hedgehogs are doing fine and the ceps were very nice until two weeks ago. Now we pray for a few days of sunshine to get the raingear dry and draw our breath without using snorkles.
Maybe the mushies will come back?

No meaningful rain here for about a month. Some of the trees aren't so much going autumn brown as crispy green, a lot of the grass is parched.

Wish I could! We had a totally dry June/July and I never thought we would have any mushrooms at all. When the rain started they came up in tonnes. I wish I knew more species; I can identyfy 10 sorts and I leave what I do not know. By know I have several kilos of wonderful dried mushrooms. How do you people keep yours?

Classic conditions for a good autumn crop. My theory is that for a good autumn of mushrooms you need a dry June, July and August (the first half at least) followed by a wet end of summer/autumn.

No proper rain here for a month at least. I found a couple of brave parasols a fortnight ago but they were so dry I could almost have sliced them and put them straight into jars.
Other than that, we had one decent day of rain on Tuesday but no sign of anything yet.

The last two times I have been over to Thetford I have come back with nothing at all, which has never happened before.
Cab. there are quite a few shaggy ink caps fruiting at the moment in Cambridge.
