New Recycling Ideas

Idea Hi JRP Recycling Ideas can help to save lives. My recycling project was designed by me to reuse millions of waste plastic containers of many shapes and sizes and unwanted wooden pallets,to grow things to help feed the starving in the third world mainly, now and in the future in a drought or flood situation, like they have in AFRICA, and since the TSUNAMI struck in ASIA. How? done by simply reusing rubbish in this country and in the rest of the world, which there is no other system in the world can match for free, because it's all made from rubbish on a small scale or a large one,for example to grow food to eat done by using my simple to make transportable recycling system, which can also be made to carry water, food, clothing, tools, and the like, which I believe there is no other system in the world can match for free, which I'm offering to all the people of the world for free as a inventor. Why? because nothing I grow is grown in the grownd it's self by design, because I wanted a system where I could be able to move my crops from one place to another without them all dieing, which you can't do if they are grown in the normal way. By using my transportable system there are other benefits too,no weeds,no slugs,no snails, and less insects to control, plus it has it's own water recycling system built in,simple done by undoing or doing up the container cap, which is at the bottom of every cut container, plus I can empty out one or more containers at any one time, and in all weathers, without getting my shoes muddy. How?because for example every thing I grow on my allotment plot is grown in plastic containers ,which are set out on unwanted wooden pallets in this country to represent to others any surface it will work on,including water. How?because every thing is desigened to self stand or float, plus for example one row of 10 containers can be made to be positioned at any hight by the means of it's carrying beam. Plus it does mean you can sow inside or outside if you want to,and you can grow more for longer if you want to,because it can all be moved on a small or large scale from one place to another. Which means I alone can reuse 300 plastic containers at any one time on each of my pallet sections if I want to by design, which does mean on my half plot alone I will reuse at least 9,000 plastic containers to help stop them going in to landfill sites.
Pus the fact, if I wanted to stop the way I was doing things, every thing could be recycled again, leaving a completely weed free flat surface area for some one else to use, which I did not have when I first started my recycling projet which involves no digging as shown on my own novice website www.recycling.moonfruit.com to help save millions of lives in the simplest of ways,Which I know can be done by reusing millions of waste plastic containers and unwanted wooden pallets in this country and in the rest of the world for free, to add to what's already being recycled now in so many different ways,by us all working together we can make a big difference to so many peoples lives, now and for generations? to come in the future. I hope you found my recycling ideas of interest to you enough to try or tell some one about. John Pendergast S.E London.

Hi John

Did you have problems logging on? post again if you did with the problem you're getting and I'll try and sort it out for you.

The main benefits of recycling

Idea The main benefits of using my recycling ideas are?
(1) It will help to reduce waste plastic containers and wood going in to landfill sites.
(2) It will help to reduce people dieing in the third world mainly.
Whilst I know I'm setting my self up to be knocked down again by all those people I have not convinced. It's a known fact no matter where any one lives they make waste of some sort, which can be re-used again in some way. All I've done is to design something which can be used made from rubbish.
To answer some points raised.
Yes, I would send some of our rubbish to any where if it ment improving someones life.
Yes, I would like it to be part of our world aid programme, along with all the money that pays for the plastic containers filled with water or the like on wooden pallets in the first place, sent to help those people in a bad flood or bad drought situation.
YES,we all know about polluting the air that we all breath in for free, whether we are rich or poor if we use aircraft, ships, helicopters lorries,or cars and motor bikes,as they all burn fuel to power their engins. But until teliporting something is invented by some one like me,the camel and donkey and boat are one of the best ways to transport many things,as they are environmentally friendly to use.
Plus of course my very simple to make transportable system, which can be carried from one place to another with something inside each row of plastic containers set out on a length of wood,to add to what ever else does the same job,but in a different way.
I know by us all working together we can make a big difference to our world. John JRP.

But we'll still be producing a LOT more plastic than we can utilise in this way. You're basically suggesting a midlle point re-use of a container, which would cause no reduction in the total amount of waste produced; factor in wear and tear on containers, replacing damaged ones, etc. and the advantage you're speaking of here is unclear.

Better perhaps to encourage people to use re-useable rather than merely re-cyclable materials, don't you think?

It's not for want of containers that people starve, it's for want of water and good soil.

Explain this to me. Assume I'm a farmer in, say, Somalia. My crops are parched from lack of water, my sons are gone (lost to AIDS and warfare), and all I have is some precious saved seed. If I can get a good crop, I'll survive, if I can't then I'll die. I haven't always got enough clean water to drink, let alone irrigate. Describe to me how your invention will save my life.

I don't understand the points made in the first part of that last passage, but I do agree with your last point.

I don't understand it either, how will a bunch of sawn off plastic containers help people with no water? I don't mean to be rude John but I don't get it, perhaps I have missed something? Surely if the materials are sent abroad in large quantities we will be adding to the air pollution too.

Idea Points raised by those who are CONFUSED by what I'm trying to do,and the way I'm trying to do it,saving lives I mean, by re-using- recycling plastic containers and unwanted wooden pallets.

(1) I have designed a simple system that works, made from plastic containers and unwanted wooden pallets in the UK,to show to others in the rest of the world, what I have done in different ways, they can do too,if they have any plastic containers and unwanted wooden pallets laying around.

(2) My designed system is made up of for example,a length of wood which is passed through a number of upside down 6 pint cut plastic milk containers, which can have compost or soil put inside them,or other plastic containers of different sizes, put inside the same upside down 6 pint cut milk container, with compost or soil inside one of them,to grow food to eat, after you have of course put some seeds in first.

(3) Next you need water to feed the crops, this is done by the container collecting rain water, in the plastic containers which are set out in rows of 10 in the UK, which can be carried from one place to another with either just water in or crops and water in them, recycling the same water over and over again untill there's no more water to recycle, done by simply undoing and doing up the cap at the bottom of each container. Untill the person finds water for themselves in some way or they will both die. But a long time after their crops would have died in the ground in a drought situation for example.

(4)Because my simple transportable system can be used in many ways,I can see no reason why it can't be used to carry, water, food, crops, tools, clothes, and the like, because it's self standing if you use 4 or more even numbers, plus it will float like a boat on water with the main base container cap done up of course.

Great. I'm sure that everyone here approves of re-using waste. How, thogh, will that really affect the net volume of material that will go to landfill/recycling? Aren't you merely borrowing said materials on their way through the system, as it were?

I don't get it. Containers lose moisture like the ground does if there is no rain; people in developing countries don't die for want of plant pots, they die for want of fertile soil, rain, and seed (amongst a whole load of other reasons). How is what you're putting forward going to save lives?

Points Raised

Idea
(1) Chemicals being released from plastic containers over a period of time.
(2) Not replacing any compost used over a long period of time.
(3)Making my allotment plot ideas work in the third world.

(1)Chemicals in plastic? Chemicals leaking from any type of plastic we use worrys me too. So I do share peoples concerns about some food poisoning taking place when using my plastic container ideas, and what we read in books. But if we all really knew what we were eating I'm sure we would starve too. Why ? For example because we eat what we are told is safe,by people who supply our food for money or sell it to make money. Yes we have a chose to grow food our selfs or to keep animals to eat. But in 2005 we have moved on from not doing that so much,to going to get what ever we want at a price from a suppler who is in the business of making money too, which we get in the UK whether we are working or not.
But in the third world the poor are really poor compared to us. That's one very good reason why people want to come and live in the Uk and no where else, because people get money to buy food and clothes for example, which their own country does not give them as of right from the day they are born, which we do in the Uk. But the poor people have learnt to cope and survive on next to nothing for many years ever since begging became a way of life, and stealing too,if it ment improving a way of life.
That's where my recycling ideas come in to be used not so much in the UK,but where you can't see the dry land for the pepole who are dieing or starvation and lack of water too, in camps set up to help feed them so they can live,to have even more children who will need feeding. Which they will do, until life it's self means something, compared to a way of life.
My system works. I'm sure if it was in the hands of a poor person in the third world, they would use it in the way I have tried out, as if I was a poor person. But they would get a much better end result than me,as they are really poor, and starving, dealing with life on a day to day bases, rather than worrying about something like plastic, which we use a lot of and they don't for example, to carry shopping in,to cover food, to seal food in to help keep it fresh for example....?

(2) Not doing any thing to the compost used.
The reason I don't add anything to my compost is mother nature does it for me. How? I don't know how but I've put seed potatoes in and I've got new potatoes out,for example all the year round, like all my other crops I've grown and eaten. All I've done is to give nature the very basics to work with, multipurpose compost made from what ever? And a water supply which is used over and over again, which may be green, brown, black, and stinks too,but it works as my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com photos show.

(3) Making my allotment plot ideas work in the third world.
My system works on a large or small scale as my website photos show. The problem I have is I have not shown it working on a flat roof,a balcony,a patieo,on a deck of a ship,on a derelict building site,in a school yard,in a classroom,on a windowsill,in a windowbox,on a beach,on water,or up a tree, which I will do if you need convincing of what I claim is true. Plus I forgot my system can be hung up,tied up,nailed up,and carried too, which my allotment plot represents in many ways in the UK,as nothing is grown in the ground it's self by design.
Thank you for taking the time to read my message to you,in the hope it will help to give to you a clearer picture of what I'm tring to do for the poor people in the world with my recycling ideas. John JRP.

Container bird scarer.

Idea
My ideas on how to re-use plastic containers of many shapes and sizes to scare birds away,if you are trying to protect your crops.
To do this you can use any plastic container with a screw on cap. This is used as a pivoting device, putting into or through canes of different lengths and sizes. Which I will now tell you how to do, to add to what's already being made by gardeners now to scare birds away, which will also help to reduce the amount of waste plastic containers going in to landfill sites in the UK and in the rest of the world if used.
(1) First you choose your plastic container with a screw on cap.
(2) Then you decide what type of pivoting device you want to make, for example.
One that pivots in a upright position all the time or one that varies on turning. My basic one to make is a container with it's bottom cut completely off, with 4 or 8 holes made in it, 2 on each side in a straight lines, big enough for your bean canes ends to pass through. Made with a pointed tool of some sort, for example a phillips screwdriver. Putting the cane end through first at the thinner end until you have the length you want sticking out on each side. You do this 2 or 4 times, ending up with what looks like a aerial device, when it's put on top of another garden bean cane with the fatter end stuck in the ground. You should now have your pivoting container device spinning on top of your bean cane in contact with the inside of the container cap,and in-between the 2 or 4 sections of wood you can see from the bottom. Forming a trap area so that the pivoting device does not come off in high winds.
(3) The next thing to do is to decide what you are going to have hanging from your cane arms sticking out from your pivoting container device. Such as a number of container tied in rows, done so that they bang together,or made from cans and containers which will do the same thing. The cans have string tied to the ringpull bit or the containers have a hole made in the middle of the screw on cap,to then have a length of string passed through it,with a large knot at one end to stop it pulling through, also tied on in rows. Or you can use old plastic shopping bags, cut in half to act like a flag does in the wind, cutting lots of strips in each bag section first to make even more noise in the wind, and movement.
(4) If you want to protect higher and lower crops at the same time on each turn. Just simply make your holes in the container at the angle that you need, instead of straight across. Remembering that you must have all your canes at equal distance apart on each side of your container so that it does not bang against the wood on the inside of your container, which of course will happen a bit when the wind trys to pass your long or short arms of cane, with what ever you have hanging down from them. Remembering to protect your self from the cane ends,by putting something like another container or a can over them to stop you poking your eyes out.
My pivoting container device can also be used at any height and it should work in the slightist of winds too. Which all of my many pivoting containers did, when I covered my whole allotment plot area with them,to show other what I made they could make too.
If you have any troubles making my bird scarer please post here. I will try to put some photo proof of what I have made in the past on to my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com ,even though I don't need them my self. John. JRP.

My Recycling System Works?

Idea A message to those who want to know?
The reason why I bother to re-use recycle plastic containers and wooden pallets are. About 10 years ago I decided to re-use my rubbish to make things as a inventor for proto types, which I have a filed patent for,but I can't afford to take it any further. So I decided to invent something which any one can make,to help reduce waste plastic containers of all shapes and sizes going into landfill sites, along with unwanted wooden pallets too, which are thrown away every day, which the Govenment backs and the borough council do too if there is money involved.
But because my ideas are new,and there is no money involved,I'm struggling to get people to use them, even though my main aim is to help save lives, not in this country so much but in the third world. Which if you have read any thing about me is what I'm trying to do in different ways, growing food to eat is just one way that works for me,which I thought I would share with the rest of the world, which money can't buy,as I'm offering it for free to any one who wants to make my simple transportable system, whether it's in the UK or any where else,as it's made from rubbish.
The simple concept of my transportable system is,rows of plastic milk containers on a carrying support made from wood, passed through the handle space of each container which are all upside down, and cut round the bottom facing away from each other on oppsite sides,4 containers being the smallest amount to self stand, 10 being the amount I use as my base main containers. In to them you can put,the same size container with some compost in or a smaller cut milk container with a bottomless clear bottle inside that, which you put compost or soil in and what ever you decide to grow.
At this point I would like to say to you all. What you see in the way of photo proof on my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com , I have grown and eaten with my family and friends, which I've also grown with very little gardening knowledge my self. So if I can feed my self any one can. I say to you all please don't knock something until you have at least tried it out, remembering if you do decide to stop the way I do things,it can all be carried away and recycled again. I hope this message has made the picture clearer for you. If we all do our bit it will make a difference to our world in some way. John. JRP.

It's nice to know some one who's done his bit to help others, and what you wrote about was also very informative too.
I'm sorry to say that I have sent letters to charities and Clare Short and to Sir Bob Geldof and any one else you may think of in the past, but if they don't reply what else can I do,apart from tell people face to face or on the internet.
They say actions speak louder than words. I have made a system that works,it's up to others whether they use it or not. John. JRP.

Rubbish going into landfill sites?

Idea The only way I believe you will ever stop most of our rubbish going into landfill sites,is to involve money. Be it on how much you recycle on a small or large scale your self. Which would mean instead of us paying to have our recyclable rubbish taken away,we would get some money back. Like they did years ago on glass bottles as they were of value, because they can be cleaned and re-used again and again until they get broken, unlike a plastic bottle which was made to last for years.
With this in mined if we don't stop it now,it will mean for example starting from today. If I bought say one plastic container which was biodegradable and it took 1 year to decompose, and I did this every day for 365 days adding one day to my 365 which my first one would take to decompose. Now multiply that by millions each day,and then add the first 365 years onto,to days plastic container. I think you will agree with me that we are wasting our time on this earth if we don't do something now,in what ever way we can. If ever a bomb was dropped on our landfill sites it would burn so much it would turn the sky black and the air to poison. Which could happen like it did years ago. John. JRP.

John,
recycling does keep the cost of waste disposal down, thus saving money bfor council tax payers.
Recycling also uses less energy and resourses that using virgin raw materials, thus also keeping costs down.
From the 1st of April all Councils will be given a landfill limit, any tonnage over this limit will result in fines of between £150 and £200 per tonne of waste disposed, over and above collection and disposal costs. This will mean that recycling can potentially save the council tax payers collectively thousands of pounds per year because the fines would be met by increasing the council tax.
Making plastic containers more biodegradable would not help as the material could not be reused through recycling or reuse. It would either have to be composted - good solution, or landfilled - causing methane production and associated disposal cost and possible excess tonnage fine.
I doubt very much that a landfill site would burn as oxygen is mainly excluded from the landfill cells which are built and sealed with an impermeble material, with leachate and methane being drawn off constantly. However I am not a landfill engineer so my technical knowlage is some what lacking in this area.

Good News, I'm going to be on SKY TV in the future.

Very Happy After me being on BBC 2 just by chance,I'm now going to be on SKY TV in the future as part of a documentary, all about suburban Gardening, after already being interviewed and filmed too the other day by the SKY programme makers. I'm also hopeing to be filmed again at Greenwich Park SE 10 on the 5- June 2005,where I will be exhibiting my very simple to make transportable recycling system off as part of a event celebrating World Environment Day. Which is also part of the London Green Lifestyle Show. Which I think will be a great day for all involved, and for those who come to see the exhibitions, produce and entertainment too. Why not come and say hello to me and see my system on a smaller scale which I CAN? YOU CAN? make too if your interested in re-using rubbish and saving lives too, like me. John. JRP.

My website looks better now?

John ,its much better than before Smile
In 'good points raised' you have put them selfs instead of themselves (hope you dont mind me pointing it out).
Do you manage on just the veg you have grown with this method or do you still have to supplement from the shops?
What is the largest thing you can grow this way and what container did it grow in?
john

Points raised?

Question Hi Culpepper, thank you for wanting to know about what I can grow in my plastic containers. YES,we do have to supplement some of our veg, which we buy from ASDA,because what I do is to let all my crops stay in their containers until I pick what crop I've grown till the last. Otherwise people would not know what I can grow and how if there was nothing for them to look at,like my potatoes are now,as I have some with green leaves and some that are dying, and some that are dead, and some I have already resown again with another lot of bits of potato, plus the old roots of my new cropped potatoes still in them,to act like a miniature decomposing system. So when you see my crop pallet section on my plot, some have seedlings in,some have crops ready to harvest, and some look like they are dying or dead,or have gone to seed. This I do all the year round to prove my system works. Which I've done for a number of years now without adding any extra food supplement to my compost I started of with.
At the moment people want to see how many different crops I can grow in my containers. To which I say give me a seed,if it germinates I can put it into one of my container. Whilst I can't say how big I've grown things yet,I can say how many have grown in my containers, for example from 1 large onion to 10 small spring onions in a bottomless clear 2 litre bottle,or 5 large onions to 10 small onions in a 4-6 pint cut plastic milk container. This I've done with lots of my sown stuff to see what happens,as there is no book written yet on the way I do things, because I can grow more things all the year round. How,because my system can all be moved from one place to another without the crops dying, either because it's to hot or cold or because they need water.
I hope this answers your question in away, even though I know I did not say what was the largest thing I've grown. But to me it really does not matter what size something is,because it usually ends up much smaller so it can go into our mouths when we are talking about food. Thank you for pointing out my spelling mistake, which I've put right. If you or others want to know more in a positive way I will take the time to reply,to others who think I'm wasting my time on this earth I won't, even though they know I'm trying to help save live and reduce some of our waste going into landfill sites in the UK and in the rest of the world for free. John. JRP.
culpepper

Thanks John.
When I asked what is the biggest thing,I really meant, can you grow things that are large ,for instance Marrows and Pumpkins?
I suppose your method would work indoors given the right lighting .
When you water,do the bottles allow for drainage?
We are lucky enough to have a garden but when I was young I lived in a flat with no garden and think this would have been an interesting and controllable way to grow things on the balcony.
My dad did grow tomatoes in an old box but the wood couldnt cope with the weight of the earth and he eventually had to give it up.He'd always had a garden prior to the flat and really missed his gardening.
john

Answers?

Question Hi Culpepper again, YES, I could grow a marrow or a pumpkin if I add a lot of water to my container, which would be I suppose grown in one of my larger bottomless water containers that they use in a office.
But the main point of my project is to grow things using a small amount of water, which my water recycling system allows me to do,by simply controling what ever water there is to feed the top container first with the crop seed in,to then let any water it does not need drip into another container to be re-used again, simply done by undoing or doing up the cap at the bottom of each upside down container.
Right now I've got 130 tomatoes plants growing in my system set out on my plot on the bottom area of 3 of my pallet sections, why? because so many seeds germinated, even though 10 plants would have been plenty. But if something wants to grow when I sow them I will put them into one of my many containers no matter what it is or how many there are. most gardeners I know in the UK for example go to a nursary and buy young grops already to grow on their allotment plots, and then use a water hose on them as if they were putting out a big fire. My way I only re-use what rain water there is in my many plastic containers, otherwise there would be no point in me telling other people about my way of growing things, which I'm sure your dad would have tried out on a flat surface some where if he loved gardening. My system works for me, I can see no reason why it won't work for you. John. JRP.

Helping to make poverty history?

Very Happy Hi every one who knows about me,now is the time to please tell the world on my behalf that there is a system that works, which can help in the fight against world poverty. To those who think I'm wasting my time on trying to save lives and reduce waste too,you are very much in the minority,as there are far more people who do care about others, who want to do their bit to help make poverty history in some way, like Sir Bob Geldof for example he is just one person out of thousands who won't give up like me,no matter what you say,if we can save just life,it's got to be worth it.
To those who would like to know,I will be on TV again on the 6 January 2006 SKY one. It's all about the Secret Life of Suburbia made by Shine TV for SKY TV. Filmed in June this year 2005. John. JRP.

Another month gone by?

Idea Hi every one who would like to know what I've been doing since I last posted. I've been showing some old folk the way I grow things with the help of AGE CONCERN on a voluntary basis, with 5 more community associations to visit in the ELTHAM LONDON area SE9,which I hope will help spread the ward about the way I re-use plastic containers and unwanted wooden pallets to grow things.
I've also been harvesting my peas, broad beans, french beans, potatoes, lettuces, and my srawberries to name a few, with still lots more crops to pick, for example 150 tomato plants in 3 section on my half plot, which are Money Maker,Ailsa Craige, and Garden delight, which are now getting plenty of water they need due to the rain we are having, which does not stop me from going onto my plot because nothing is grown in the ground.
That's why I can carry 5 rows of my containers with their crops in with me to show every one in the boot of my car,to then put them all back where they came from at the end of the day, after they have been exhibited in doors or out side to show just how much you can grow in such a small space if you want to.
By the way has any body tried my way of doing things yet? To know what you have been reading about please visit my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com ,to make photos larger please click on them. John JRP.

RE-USING FAILED M.O.T. CARS OR VANS TO HOUSE THE HOMELESS.

Idea May I put forward my own ideas on how I would help those who need a roof over their head,a place to live or just a dry place to sleep. Done by re-using failed M.O.T. vehicles.
Nearly every where people need a place or a base to live, whilst millions of us are OK there are lots of people who aren't young and old,who face each day in a different way compared to most of us. With this in mind may I suggest a way that I believe would help many people for next to nothing. For example for those who need a permanent base of some kind who do have a problem what ever it is,but they still get money from some where,so they get by. I believe if you become a member of anything you feel involved which gives you a reason to do things whether it's good or bad. Of course we can all turn our backs on other peoples problems, but we are the first to moan if the weather is to hot or to cold or raining, plus all the other aches and pains which we can't do anything about, but when it comes to simply giving someone a roof over their heads then we can,but we are talking about spending lots of money.
My way would cost next to nothing if used, like most things I try to get others to use,but I'm a no body. Plus there are all types of people who are paid to solve these problems every day who go home to a base with a roof on it.
What I would like is for someone to designate a area,a space for lots of cars and vans to be parked up which could be used as a base for someone to live in,with a very low electrical power supply laid on,enough to supply a light or to charge a battery,to help keep any running cost down to those who may use my idea. Whilst a traveler's site caters for caravans and vehicles which move, and they usually have toilets and water laid on,I would like the designated area to have the same thing, with CCTV and wardens to watch over those who respect what's being done for them. These people would have their own key to their vehicle base, and a must agreement signed, which will give them a post number for their base. There should be no money involved in paying for this service once in place as I'm sure it would cost more to help the homeless in any other way. Plus the fact if the area was needed, all the vehicles could be scrapped to be recycled or moved to another place.
If you think about what a car alone can offer with the engine and gearbox and exhaust and fuel tank removed you have that space for what ever, with it filled in at the bottom, leaving you with just the hand brake,to keep the vehicle in place. Also with the two front seats turned round and the steering wheel removed would give you a bigger area all round too,the boot area can be got at from the inside or out,if it's a four door car even better for vetilation with wind up and down windows, which most older cars have plus it would be better for getting in and out too. With the help of hooks and eyes curtains can be fixed up to give some privacy. The wheels can be used to have a line post tied to them through the air flow spaces. The glove box can be used, like the ash trays, hand rails can be used, the back shelf and dash board top can be used too. With one of the front seats out could use that space for some sort of cooking area with floor carpet removed of course. The front seat usually reclines enough to sleep in,the back seat can be used to sleep on,all the doors can be locked from the inside or outside. In the hot weather the 4 post line can have a sheet of some sort laid across the area to shade the car,or in wet weather. Sleeping bags would be supplied along with a fire extinguisher, water would be supplied through a simple hose system from one main tap on site, hot water could be run through the cars heating system in the same way,all the vehicles could be linked up by using the same system, with the same space as you would have in a normal car park layout. I can't think of anything else I would need to make my car livable for 1 or 2 people.
I'm sorry for any spelling mistakes,as there is no spell check on this page. JRP

TREE TOP FARMING.

Idea I've just put forward my ideas on how I would use my system of growing things to start tree top farming in CANADA. As I have a e-mail friend called George who is interested in doing so, as he lives surrounded by forest with no room to grow things on the ground, because of the roots and not a lot of light getting to the lower area in-between the trees, plus the cold weather conditions are a problem too,but he is going to try my way of doing things as I grow nothing in the ground it's self, which could also help the people living in the rain forest too, where they are cutting down thousands of tree,so they can grow things to eat,and for other things too. With this in mind I'm now going to tell you what I told George as you might find it of interest to you, even though I'm sure I will be taken as a fool by those who don't like the way I re-use waste plastic containers and wood now,to be of benefit to those who might use my simple transportable system now, made for free to help feed themselves. What I said.
My decking is your platform covered completely in rows of plastic containers, even a poly tunnel system covering the crops would protect them from the snow and cold winds. I'm sure once the first platform is made up high using block and tackle, and a lot of ropes, you will then go on to link up other tree top platform areas to each other by the way of walk ways,so you can do things without coming down. What I suggest you do first is to make a small version of what your tree top farm is going to be like, simply done by finding a young tree to work on,or more to represent the way your going to have to do things on a small scale first, before trying to do it on a larger scale up high. For example either laying out your containers on a trunk area you have cut off,or extending it by laying very long length of wood down on top of your tree trunk first, which ever way you feel is safer, remembering the bigger the space the more you can grow. Making a log cabin serves a purpose made from wood, making a tree top farming system from wood will serve even a bigger purpose.
The main benefits of my system is if used, you don't have to cut down any trees, only the top part is removed, which allows the tree to keep on growing, leaving outer branches all the way round your platform to protect you from the wind, you can also use solar power, wind power if you want too,you can also save water in many ways to make your self even more selfsufficientish.
The only down side would be if there was a fire, but if we are talking about very wide tree trunks,I'm sure all would not be lost to start again. Plus you could already have a helicopter landing platform made in the same way to help in a rescue situation or for other things. Plus you would only need a sharp knife once you are set up to do things, like I do now, even re-using the same compost over and over again will give you a crop.
There's a thought a tree top allotment plot, but not in the UK. John JRP.

Recycling ideas to my old school.

Idea I've just been in contact with one of my old class mates who is now chairman at my old school in Eltham. I've asked him to ask the children if they would be interested in my re-using of waste ideas,to have as a school project,to help reduce some of our waste going into landfill sites in the UK, as we were not very good at the 3Rs ourselves when we were at school. I'M GLAD I'M NOT HOMELESS AT CHRISTMAS.

I'm glad I'm not homeless at Christmas arnt you,as being without a place to live in,and the chance to bring up a family must really hurt,or just a place to say, this is where you will find me,and what I own. I know most of us would say that most of the homeless bring it on themselves, but it still must hurt at Christmas as we where all children once,no matter where we live. I would like to wish every one young and old a Happy Christmas, and I hope a Happy New Year 2006 too. John JRP.

May I put forward another new idea of mine, and that is to re-use old rags or shredded fabric materials to cover the ground surface.
Whilst I've been talking to a lot of people about the re-use of my waste transportable water recycling system. I'm about to start my own trials on covering my seeds in my containers with old clean rags to see if I can save even more water than I already do now to grow my crops in the UK.
I'm sure it will work like all my other ideas do,because it will act like bark chippings, compost,or black screen material to stop the weeds, and to protect the roots, even though where it does come in contact with the damp surface it will absorb some water, but water finds it's own level,so if the lower part is dryer in my containers it will draw down what water is in the fabric material. So when it rains water fulls into the materials which will absorb it until it can't hold no more, for then to drip into my lower compost section to help feed my crop,it will also help if my top area of my compost is dry from being blown about in strong winds, even though I always leave about a inch so I can put another upside down clear bottomless bottle inside it.
To make my fabric material look more like some sort of compost,or manure,I'm going to soak it in brown muddy water first.
If my material covering idea works OK, I can see allotment plots all over the world looking like as if some one has just dug over the surface with or without any crops already growing in it all the year round.
If the fabric materials were dug into the soil,I can see it being much more easier for those who have heavy soil to dig over, which I don't have a problem with as I grow nothing in the ground it's self. Of course if there is a problem with re-using old rag materials I'm sure some one will tell me before I start my trials next year,or next week,it will all depends on what type of old clothes I've got to throw away. May I wish you all a Merry Christmas and I hope a Happy New Year 2006 too. John JRP.

RE-USING OLD DOUBLE DECKER BUSES TO HOUSE THE HOMELESS.

Idea I've just seen on TV today 19-12-2005,a great idea to use old double decker buses to help the homeless. The only trouble is we only have a few of them, plus every one is one top of each other, and the buses must have cost a lot of money to convert too,but at least they have used my idea in a different way, even though my idea would have cost next to nothing.
With a designated parking space we can now get more homeless in the same space as 2 cars, like a block of flats, well done to the person who actually got their idea used,it must have been someone who is into re-using things like me and many others.
Power to the people who are doing their bit. John. JRP.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Idea Hi,to any one who's interested. I've just put 2 photos on my website to show you what I have made, which I believe have never been made before,so please be one of the first people to take a look at something different on my website,www.rcycling.moonfruit.com under THINGS TO MAKE. As seeing is believing, when it comes to something new. John.JRP.

We quite often make plastic bottle birdfeeders with kids at work, always a fun project and a good way to introduce children to both creative recycling and birdwatching at the same time. We've done quite similar pop bottle people too- though yours are certainly a bit bigger! Another fun one is to make 'ships in bottles' from old pop bottles, hours of fun for youngsters with a bit of dexterity. Have you had a go at the windmills where you cut flaps in the side fo a bottle and bend them out, then stand the bottle on a cane? that can be a lot of fun too Very Happy
Lozzie

Yes Sally - those make excellent noisy bird-scarers on the allotment, too

Idea Hi Sally,I'm not very good with words, but here goes, Yes I've made windmills too like you have.but to use more containers I make mine this way.
I get say 2-2 litre round plastic bottles,I cut the bottom off of both of them,I then cut a panel half way round each bottle leaving about 2 inches from the cut off bottom of the container,I then put one ends inside other,so when they were in line,I pull both of the cut panels out on each side through the cut space by turning them until they lock in place with the flaps sticking out on each side.
I then stapled my cut off bottoms onto the edge of each flap, this made them bend a bit,but when the wind blows they help to catch it.
I also make my bird scarres in the same way simply done by making a hole in the the base of any container in line with the cap,I then make holes in the sides to put canes through and attach what ever to them,as one of my photos shows. Plus I put a round headed screw into the top of my cane, so that the container pivots easyer in side the cap.
Thank you for showing your interest in what I've done,I've also had lots of hours of fun making them too, just like all your young children do,its nice to know someone else is doing their bit John. JRP.

Don't know, but I would have thought those big eyes on Culpeppers wouldn't be very "come hither" to a pigeon or starling Laughing And I know if I take a seed/plant catalogue in to the garden while the chickens are out, they will often try to peck at any of the pages with redcurrants/other red berries on. Very odd. And they do tell you if you want a tree to keep its berries (sorbus for example) to pick one with white or pink or yellow berries which won't be spotted and eaten so soon.

And of course, they do look pretty, painted Smile

RECYCLING YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS WITH THE LADIES.

Laughing Recycling your way to success with the ladies,as reported in our local news paper today 15-2-2006.
For years the answer to one impossible question has eluded most men - what makes women happy?
According to a new survey the answer is not flowers,or a gift,or a candlelit dinner but something far simpler and cheaper - RECYCLING.
Only a quarter of men in the borough currently recycle reqularly.
The council is now URGING MEN TO BOOST THEIR CHANCES with the laidies by recycling their VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS and CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES.
What a load of RUBBISH my wife said, mind you I'm a RE-USER so I think this does not apply to me,or does it,I will have to try buying some flowers first, and maybe a gift,I don't know about a candlelit dinner,no I think I will tell my wife I'm recycling now instead of re-using,IT WORKS OUT CHEAPER. I can't wait for the upturn in my sex life. Laughing Confused Shocked Wink Laughing John. JRP.

OXFAM I'M IN ? are you.

Idea Hi every one,OXFAM have asked me to tell you they need help to help millions of people in East Africa.

THIS MONTH,as the food crisis in East Africa worsens,OXFAM is responding in Ethiopia,Kenya and Somalia by targetting food distributions, water and livelihoods support to over 500,000 people.
Currently, they are trucking in 20,000 litres each week to people in Wajir,Kenya, who previously face a 60-kilomtre trek to find water,or were forced to drink dirty supplies.

To find out more please visit OXFAM-I'M IN-the people's poll at www.oxfam.org.uk, I've offered my help,if we all try to do our bit,I'm sure it will make a big difference to those people who need our help now. John JRP.

Idea Hi ALL,another month gone by again and still no major break through in regards to finding some one to help me to take my idea forward to help the poor.

Whilst we are now having some rainfall in the South East I have now done up all my container caps to save as much water as I can,as I think we are not going to get a lot in the summer.
This year I'm growing a lot more in my pallet sections on my pallet half plot for example. Starting from the front on the left hand side of my plot, (PI) section I've got Potato's growing in 50 bottomless 2 litre bottles on the bottom, and I've got 50 old Onions growing on the top in 2 litre bottomless bottles sown in 2004. (P2) has got 50 Potato containers on the bottom, and I've got 50 old Leeks growing in bottomless bottles on the top sown in 2004. (P3) I've got 50 Potato containers on the bottom, and I've got 50 mixed Carrot containers on the top sown in 2006. (P4) I've got 50 potato containers on the bottom, and I've got 50 Parsnip containers on the top sown in 2006. (P5) I've got 50 potato containers on the bottom, and I've got 50 Beetroot containers on the top sown in 2006.
I've just started my (A) pallet section with 40 more potato 4 pint containers inside 50 6 pint base containers rows 1-2-4-5,the third rows got my Runner Beans in 10 bottomless 2 litre bottles sown in 2006. (B)-(C) have got 80 base 6 pinter containers in at the moment, with their third rows having some more Runner Beans in sown in 2006. (D)-(E)-(F) have Strawberries growing in them on the bottom in 6 pinters, with some Herbs containers and celery on the top rows, plus old Spring onions,Sweetpeas and other things. In my (G) section I've got 50 Broad Beans plants growing,in my (H) section I've got French Beans,in my (I) section I've got 50 Lettuces growing,in my (J)-(K)-(L) section I've got Peas growing,in my (M)-(N)-(O) section I've got Tomato seedlings growing,in my first pallet section on the right hand side I've got 100 Cabbages growing. (P2) section I've got 100 Brussel Sprouts growing,(P3) section I've got 100 Broccoli growing. (P4) section I've got mixed Onions growing on the bottom in 50 bottomless 2 litre bottles, and I've got 50 Radish containers on the top. (P5) section I've got 100 Cauliflowers growing in it.
All I've got to do now is to wait and see what harvest I will get. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. May you all live long and happy. John. JRP.

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY SHE SAID.

Idea Very Happy Hi ALL,what a great day we had on the 10-5-2006,what with it being a very hot and sunny day,and meeting a very positive thinking lady, who I spoke to for at least 3 hours, before she had to make her own way back home again to South East Greenwich by bus.
With a end result after our meeting being, she said that she will do all she can to help spread the word on my behalf, about my way of growing things after she see my plot. For example she's going to contact the TV Community channel, and use my idea on her own very small back garden space boxed in by high fences and no earth, just concrete to grow food on to eat as she is a vegetarian, and she can cook too, just as well as she is the loving mother of 9 children who enjoys life.
If there's any one else out there who wants to see my plot, and meet me to talk about it,please e-mail me. John. J.R.P.

THE SECRET LIFE OF SUBURBIA?

Idea Very Happy Hi ALL again, for those who are interested,I was told today the 17-5-2006 that I was on SKY Three,by someone who had watched it,but not by the film makers. This is a repeat programm so I will be looking at it with you to see what the end result was after 6 hours of filming to help get my message across.
The Secret Life of Suburbia is on at 6am and 6pm,thank you for your time. John.J.R.P.

ALL IS NOT LOST,WE BELIEVE I'M ON TOMORROW?

Idea Very Happy Hi ALL again, all is not lost as we believe I'm on tomorrow the 18-5-2006 at 6pm,because it's to do with eccentric people which I suppose I am to some people, If I'm not on we have missed it too, never mind it might be repeated again in the future,we will have to wait and see, fingers crossed. I'M SORRY IF I WASTED YOUR TIME.

Idea Sad Hi ALL I'm Sorry, but it was not on today as we thought it might be. All I can say is the programme is on again next week, and that Tuesday and Thursday have something to do with using, space,or gardening. Apart from that we don't know when it's on either. It just said The Secret of Suburbia, which I did for SKY1 back in June 2005. Thank you once again for showing your interest in what I'm doing, fingers crossed it's on next week. John.J.R.P.

I WAS ON TV.

Idea Smile Very Happy Hi ALL,it was on at 6pm on the 23-5-2006,and again on the 24-5-2006 at 6am,which I thought would have shown more about the way I do things after spending nearly the whole day filming, but 10 minutes was allowed for each section of the programme, which after editing changed the context of what I said to fit what some people are like, who like to be so different,it became laughable, which I did not know about when I said they could help me to promote me and my ideas.
For a start my name is Pendergast not P(r)endergast, and I live in Eltham in Greenwich not Dartford in Kent, and when I said that I can grow things in the desert, this was said in the context of an example along with other ways. And for me to say that no matter what happen I will not give up my re-use of waste project, was said when I had most of the old folk allotment plot holders against what I was using my allotment plot for,and they were doing things to try and get me off it in many different ways, which I'm pleased to say has died down now. Apart from that it did show me and some of my ideas off to others which someone might have found of interest, which we enjoyed anyway, which I hope others did too. John. J.R.P.

NEW WAYS TO RE_USE THINGS.

Idea Smile Hi Simon,it's good to know there are other's out there trying things out too,and telling other's about what they are doing to help to reuse things. I will be putting forward another new idea of mine soon, which you and other's should find of interest as it's to do with another different way of growing things in the ground this time, which I would have done if I had not covered my whole allotment plot in unwanted wooden pallets and plastic containers.
Thank you for showing your interest in the way I do things. May you and yours live long and happy. John. J.R.P.

PERMACULTURE?

Idea Question Hi ALL,for those who are interested in my ideas. I went on the internet and I found someone who might be able to help me to spread the word,as most of what I do involves PERMACULTURE in one way or another. He's a Mr Graham Burnett at www.spiralseed.co.uk who I sent a e-mail to the other day,I'm waiting for a reply.

ASKING FOR HELP?

Idea Smile Hi ALL,for those who are interesed in my ideas,I sent a e-mail to the Permaculture Council of Management UK the other day to see if they can help me to get my ideas used, and I've sent a e-mail to Sir Cliff Richard too,to see if he can help me,as he believes in tying to help others too,in his own way.
I'm waiting for a reply from both of them,I wonder if I will get a reply, as one has two people at the heart of a big organisation, and the other one is a fames person with a big heart who is in his sixtys too, like me.

I'M ON TV AGAIN?

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL,it's me again trying to promote my ideas. For those who haven't seen me on SKY Three TV yet,I should be on again tomorrow 25-9-2006 at 10 30am or one day in the week. The Secret Life Of, to do with Gardening in suburbia is my topic. If I can save one life by posting on this website I think its got to be worth it,I'm sorry if you think I'm wasting my time as I'm no further than I was 8 years ago,but if someone out there can help me to get my ideas used or up and running, they might like to take a look to see if they can help me in some way by watching the TV programme. May we all live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Hi ALL who are interested in the way I do things. To day the 5-11-2006 I reveal my latist design in a upright transportable growing system, which is my latist project to help those who have not a lot of space on the ground surface, but have a fence or railings or a wall going round it,which could be used to help hold it in place. I designed it for children to use or someone in a wheelchair or someone who can't dig any more. I've added 3 photos to my Cereal Crop Growing photo page for you to look at,and I've changed others on my 3 other Crop Growing pages too, which I hope will change your mind about digging in the future. My Project is to be used by our local community to show a different way of growing things, and to have fun too doing it, by adding some colours to the containers to show who's who's when in use. With a end result of a Private back yard with lots of coloured plastic containers surrounding it,with lots of different things growing in them, which also has a new green wire screen as a backing too, attached to railings which go all the way round it. Which my 3 photo show the first 3 stages of on my website. I have other designs for you to look at in the future which I hope you will find of interest too. May you and yours live long and happy to see lots of fireworks. John. J.R.P. Very Happy

POLYTUNNEL WATER RECYCLING IDEA.

Idea Question Very Happy Smile Hi ALL ,for those who have a polytunnel and want to recycle rain water, which does not fall on their crops because they are covered by the polytunnel.
May I share another new idea of mine with you which I believe as not been tried before AS IF I HAD a polytunnle which I believe is a good idea to use.
MY IDEA IS, I would make up a system to catch all the rain water which would normally run off the polytunnel, which I then would make go into a water butt done in a simple way.
First I would buy some cheap plastic guttering or long lengths of plastic pipe which I would saw down the middle to give me two halfs each time, these I would support by putting 2-4 say 10ft bean canes or less at the furthest end corners, and I would sink them in about 1 foot, then I would laydown alongside my polytunnel all my lengths of guttering until it came out enough to flow into 2 water butts, one on each side of where I would walk in,putting 4 canes to support where the ends of each gutter over lapped each other,so that no water leaked, held in place by what ever you had like tape or string. This I would do on both sides right next to the cover so my guttering was sloping down towards my water butts resting on bean canes spaced out in 4s at each overlap joint.
I would then put a length of guttering along the back of the futhest end sloping from one side to another a bit, resting on the top of my 2 side gutterings where the 4 canes are on each corner, but a bit shorter so that any rain water will drip down into the side ones, held in place by what ever you are using.
Next is how I would get my rain water into my guttering which is away from the side of my polytunnel. I would use any sheet of plastic for example, bin liners cut in 4 - 6 inch wide long strips or green bags or even shopping bages would work over lapping each other too..
NOW COMES THE BEST BIT,I would get a real of sticky tape of some sort which will stick to the polytunnel cover material,I would then lay all my lengths of plastic in line with my guttering so that some of it can be stuck to the polytunnel cover and some lays in the guttering not stuck. JOB DONE.
What I would have then is a polytunnel with a attached flap like system that lays inside my guttering which slopes down into my two water butts supported by bean canes,I would then lay some more bean canes down on top of the flaps inside the guttering to help hold it in place. This way would also work if my polytunnel was on a slope too.
It's up to you now whether you try it or not,I have over 8,000 small water buts I use so I'm ok. May you and yours live long and happy. Happy New Year 2007. John. J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, if you went to see or exhibited something growing at the CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW this year or in the past, would you like to see the way I grow things exhibited there, as I've been sent an invite TO APPLY to next years show, because my projects are to do with saving lives, reusing waste, and growing things, which all come under the heading 'Gardening with Climate Change'. Of cause I wont the answer to be Yes, and the reason why, but if you don't then say so, and the reason why, as they say it's good to talk if it helps to solve a problem. Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, what a great day we had yesterday the 9th, when I exhibited my two projects off to lots of people who had come to our Mottingham Fete SE9. It was worm with a cool breeze but no rain even though we had a few rain clouds pass over what was going on. I managed to get into my 4 door car with a lift up window and boot one brokendown pallet section into the back of my car, along with 70 crops in their containers on their carrying beams, plus extra bags of containers too, and 10-8ft bean cane plus a 8ft-4ft folded up full size drawing of my own allotment plot I did to show others what my plot looked like from above. I've been taking lots of photos of what I've been doing lately which I will be adding to my website soon, which will be mostly of my Community project this time which you may also like to try. I will be starting another project at our local chuch soon, which will also be about growing things in containers vertically with the help of Age Concern, hopefully going all the way along a 25ft length of metal fencing they have alongside a walkway at the side of the church, which the old folk can use to grow things. We are also having a open day at the Mottingham Community Learning Centre-Shop on Friday the 15th from 12am until 7pm, which will also help to promote the way we grow things, and it will also help to promote what the Learning Shop as to offer to the local community too. I will give you another update soon, in the mean time. Smile
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John. J.R.P.

John Have you thought about showing your ideas to playgroups, nurseries, schools

Teachers are always looking for projects for children to do and have limited space.

I like your ideas and i'm thinking about adapting them on a small scale in my garden

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ECO, thank you for showing your interest in the way I grow things. On Saturday I had Teachers and others who were involved with children say that they were going to use my very simple to make system after me telling them, and showing them how it worked, which is great to know, I will have to wait and see if they e-mail me if they need anymore help. Like your self if you need to know anything please ask me. Smile

Idea Question Very Happy HI ALL, on Friday the 15-6-2007 was our open day, which was at our Mottingham Community Learning Centre-Shop, Cranley Parade, Beaconsfield Road, London SE9, for people to come and see what's on offer. I had lots of interest shown in our Reuse of waste plastic containers idea to grow things in, which we have going all the way around the edge of our back yard area. With this in mind I'm now in the process of putting lots of new photos onto my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com to cover my 2nd new project, which we have up and running now, with another one starting just around the corner at our local Church St. Andrews sometime next week, which I will also be adding some photos of once we have start it The Sad News is after us having a good day with lots of people calling in to see us, we were then told that the Bromley Council said that they will be shutting the Community Learning Centre-Shop down because of the lack of funds at the end of the month, so we have now started a petition up, which we are asking people to sign to help stop this from happening in the future. Sad In the mean time may you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John. J.R.P.

Idea Question Embarassed Hi ALL, today the 1-7-2007 I give you notice that I have removed the topic on my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com about CUTTING CRIME, as its got nothing to do with trying to help the poor people in our world, and Re-using and Recycling some of our waste, and Gardening, which I designed my website for. With this in mind could you please spread the word, as I need all the help I can get to help others. THANK YOU VERY MUCH IF YOU CAN DO THIS FOR ME.

Idea Question Embarassed Hi ALL,this message is for all those people who know people who have allotment plots or do farming where it has flooded, or for any body else who cares about others, whilst I'm sure most of the people do already know what ever they have growing now they must not eat it, why because of it being contaminated, and the contamination is now covering a wide area of land, to the point that all the crop growing farmers who have been effected, are now saying the land is going to be no good to use anymore, for many years in the future.
With this in mind I know how I can help them, done by you simply helping me to spread the word, that they can still grow things in containers, which they lay out on top of the contaminated land, using my very simple to make transportable growing system to grow something in, designed to helps them in a flood situation like I've been offering to the rest of the world for many years now. In the West of the country people have been flooded, it would make me feel good, and I'm sure it would make you feel good too, to know that someone is going use my idea after you trying to help me to spread the word.
This way they can still carry on growing things to eat or to make a living, instead of just giving up because they can no longer use the land that's been contaminated by what ever for many years to come. There must be thousands of containers of all shapes and sizes the people have had to use to hold water, simply fill them now with cheap compost and grow something to eat, instead of sending them mostly to the landfill sites, along with all the rest of the rubbish the floods have created I say.
I know that there are already lots of people out there who know my system works, I do believe now is the time for all of them to tell others, so we can help those who do need all the help they can get right now in the UK where it has been flooded..
For those who do not know what I'm talking about please visit my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy, and thank you for taking the time to read my important message. John. J.R.P.

BUGS 9 TIMES LIMIT,as reported in a leading news paper dated the 26-7-2007.
BRITAIN'S flood water contains dangerous bacteria at a level NINE TIMES the limit for a safe beach, TESTS REVEALED. A test sample taken in WALHAM, near CLOUCESTER, at the height of the floods was ANALYSED BY SCIENTISTS.
They FOUND 4,700 COLIFORM CFUs (colony forming units) per 100ml.
The EU LIMIT for a safe BLUE FLAG beach is 500 COLIFORM CFUs per 100ml of WATER.
LEVELS OF potentially DEADLY E.COLI were also WORRYINGLY HIGH. And water trapped inside flooded homes is likely to be even more dangerous as toilets overflow and raw sewage surges back out from pipes.
E.COLI LEVELS in water like this are probably IN THE MILLIONS of CFUs, HEALTH EXPERTS WARNED.
SCIENTISTS ALSO WARNED THAT THE RISK OF INFECTION WILL INCREASE AS THE FLOOD WATER RECEDES AND THE CONTAMINATION BECOMES MORE CONCENTRATED. Of course if you have not been flooded this wont apply to you. John. J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, for those who are interested, my photos are back on my website, plus I've just sent a e-mail to the Channel 4 TV DUMPED programme expert Rob Holdway, to see if he can help to spread the word about the way I do things, to help reduce some of our waste going into landfill sites in the UK, and in the rest of the world if I can, whether he will reply or not I will have to wait and see. Apart from that all my projects are now going well, but still no reply from Bob Sweet Chelsea Flower Show, so I wont bother.again until next year, to exhibit 2009. John. J.R.P. Sad

Idea Question Smile Very Happy Hi ALL, I thought I would like to share with you what a great night out we all had, when we went to see over a 100 young children, and some adualts perform on the LONDON PALLADIUM stage last week end, aged from the youngest boy being 6 years old, with others up to about 16, who were all there to live their dream of becoming famous. I think every one knew from the very first performance we were going to see lots of children having a good time who also had I think the X factor.
The show was none stop entertainment put on by the pupils of the Belcanto Theatre Arts school based at Eltham SE9 from the begining to the end, packed with so many different dances routines, and individual performances, and sound and lighting effects which added to what was a great night out in London for my wife and I and others too.
The owner of the school must have booked the London Palladium at a lose so that all of the children who went to her school would have the chance to show off what they can do, to their parent, and others who went to see them on the 30-9-2007 that night, like we did, which was to celebrate their 10th Anniversary.
There was one bit done by one young boy about 9 years old who played a deaf old man in a wheelchair with a flat cap and glasses, who had 2 young girls acting with him about the same age who were also playing the part of old wimin, all three were sent to clean their school by mistake from the Job Centre contractors, every time they spoke to him he would moan or shout something, like there's no need to shout, I'm not deaf, or I can change my mind if I want to, which had us all bursting out laughing because of the way he said it, and what the girls said, and what another boy said too who came on for a while.
We did have a bit of trouble finding a parking space near the theatre at first, but our luck was in and we got there on time. It was worth going just to see their happy faces at the end of the show when they must have said to them selves, after all the hard work of learning everything it was over, and they had done what they had lernt very well on the London Palladium stage.
Which along with others we all very much enjoyed watching them do for us. I hope they all live long and happy. God Blessum. If you happen to live near Eltham SE9 and you want to know more they had their website printed on the back of our programme it's, www.theatretraining.com maybe you have a child who would one day like to live their dream of performing on a Top London Theatre stage Like the London Palladium. HAVE YOU FOUND THE RIGHT SCHOOL YET? these children seem to have.

Some more good news if your interested in the way I try to spread the word, I've just put some more new photos on my website taken of my Church Project stage 2 for you to look at, plus I've also added 3 photos of my TREE TOP FARMING IDEA for you to look at under cereal grops, to show to you what my own trees look like now with the middle tree trunks removed, to allow me to build if I want to a platform area to use my transportable system of growing things on, like you would build a tree house for example. but that's as far as I will go, because my wife said I'm to old to be climbing up trees just to prove a point, so you will have to use your imagination or have a go your self, if you happen to be living surrounded by trees with no ground space to grow anything in. May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John. J.R.P. Smile

Idea Question Sad Hi ALL, VERY SAD NEWS for me, after me getting a long awaited reply from Miss Ann Widdecombe. It's turns out after many years of trying to get my life saving ideas used, at last some one on behalf of the lovely lady has taken the time to tell me the reason why I haven't found any one in power to champion my cause. It's all to do with being bound by a very strict Parliamentary Convention, which forbids Members of Parliament from entering into detailed correspondence with, or making representations on behalf of, other Member's constituents, therefore Miss Ann Widdecombe is like every one else who has a say in runnings the UK, they are regretably unable to write to me in any detail, as she and others must simply abide by the rules. So it all comes down to that old saying, it's not what you know, it's who you know, even though my own local Labour MP was once the head of recycling in GREENWICH SE10.
What a crazy world we live in, when you can contact some people to help you, who could change your life without actually knowing you, yet can not be held accountable for their action to you. Plus they say it's good to talk to anyone, especially your Member of Parliament who is in (POWER) to represent you and others. It does seam to me after all my years of trying, money does talk in any language, but not when something is made for FREE, to help reduce some of our waste, and save lives too.
The saddest part about me wasting my time on this earth is, I'm begining to think it's because I'm white, and English and living in Great Britain that I'm getting no help, even though I'm trying to help solve 2 world problems for next to nothing, and more. What more can one man offer to do without help from others, when so many people say why bother to help others, when you might not ever know them, and tell me my ideas won't work too, yes I agree every one has the right to have an opinion about my ideas, but at least try them out first before telling me they won't work for some reason, and can prove it...
What I would of liked is, to put the song FEED THE WORLD on to my website www.recycling.moonfruit.com after us buying it to help promote my way of doing things, but I can't because I would have topay Sir Bob Geldof copy rights money to do so? which is a shame especially as its to do with Christmas, and feeding the poor too.
With this in mind may I be one of the first to wish you and yours and every one else in the world a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 too. John.J.R.P. Very Happy Laughing

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, what a crazy world we live in, when on the Dragons Den TV programme they gave £50,000 towards a transportable water purification system, which will be sold at around £20 a time to all the charities who are involved in saving lives.
May I point out to you all that my vertical water recycling system can do the same thing by design, simply done by adding some sort of filter, Like sand or rages or both, in to the container you would remove each time, you use to put compost in, to then grow something in to eat now, which cost next to nothing to make. and I'm offering it to the world for FREE. I say anything that helps to save lives should be tried, because it's got to be worth it, not just in money terms. I do hope the poor people this system was designed for are able to use it in their every day life, like mine, made from rubbish, especially as it only works when the wheels go round by design.. If you want to know more about the way I would do things please ask, especially if you are a charity thinking about buying these with our money, even though it's a good idea, I can see lots of problem, for example, a lot of moving fluid weight on 2 none repairable wheel, we are talking 50 litres on a uneven surface being pulled for miles every day it's used, by poor starving weak people who are also dying of dirty contaminated water, or no water at all. Come on you money people why not run a pipe line from where ever to where ever with fresh drinking water inside it, and name it after you, or your company. knowing in return you will help to save lots of lives, which is more in value than you will ever own. Water means life, what ever way you look at it. Some people think I'm mad, or just plain stupid, when I put forward an idea, but to them I say.
May you and yours and all those who think I'm not mad or stupid live long and happy. John.J.R.P. Very Happy

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, today the 23-1-2008 we had our waste collected, using the New collection system in GREENwich. Which is now our GREEN BIN is used for FOOD and GARDEN WASTE ONLY, which they are going to collect WEEKLY, and our BLUE TOP BIN can take a mix of CANs, CARDBOARD, GLASS, PLASTIC, and PAPER and CORRUGATED CARDBOARD too, all in one go, which will be collected WEEKLY, and if we have LEFT-OVERs like POLYSTYRENE, or DOG or CAT EXCREMENT, SANITARY TOWELs and INCONTINENCE PADs, COLD COAL and WOOD EMBERS, they must be all put in a SEALED BAG, any VACUUM CLEANER WASTE, CIGARETTE ENDs, COTTON WOOL PADs and BUDs and MAKE-UP WIPEs, COAT HANGERS, and BROKEN CROCKERY, which must be wrapped to avoid any injury to the dustman mainly, all these we are told to put in BLACK PLASTIC SACKs to be collected FORTNIGHTLY from now on. WHY! Why should we wait two weeks for it to be collected, when it could be all collected on the same day, and in another WHEELIE BIN say with a RED TOP. Plus we are being asked to pay for BAGs, GARDEN SACKs, CADDY LINERs when we as council tax payer already pay for every thing. This I pointed out to all the people who were present at our local COLDHARBOUR Estate NEIGHBOURHOOD PANEL MEETING, which had a man frow GREENWICH COUNCIL there talking about GREENWICH's New way of collecting our waste, and the ways they are going to RECYCLE and REUSE it to help to REDUCE it going to landfill sites, with the help of us all doing our bit. They say the money making side of things it's to improve their services for us, IN WHAT WAY! We have just paid for a New Council Materials Recycling Facility which Automatically sorts the Paper, Cans and Bottles and packs them into bales. yet we are being asked to seprate most things WHY! even though I don't mind doing it if it helps, but come on atleast supply us with the things we need, without us having to pay for it, even though some people don't mind doing that too, but that's their choice when they are being told we must all buy things to help the Council keep where we live looking clean and tidy, and free from Waste. If our Greenwich Council wants to show the best way to deal with its waste, its got to do more for us, and in return I'm sure we will all DO OUR BIT, like I am, in my own way as my website will show, and in some of my ideas I have put forward, which I believe are a bit outside the box ways of thinking. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. I hope you all have a Happy New Year 2008, and may you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John. J.R.P.

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, I'm sorry if you can't get your head round my post, the main points I'm trying to make are, Yes it's a new system which is great, but WHY use black bags, when they could have given us another bin, say with a red top to put them in, instead of us having to put the black bags down by the side of our two other bins until they are collected fortnightly, making the area where we live look like a dump. When we have three new waste collecting lorries which did come round on the 23-1-2008, 1 at 6am, another at about 10am, and anther one at about 2pm, all on the same day. The point I'm trying to make is if they can do it one week, on one day, then why can they do it like that every week. If you would like to visit the Council website which cover everything I've been talking about in the way of info it's. Home Page is ok,www.greenwich.gov.uk/Greenwhich/YourEnvironment/RubbishRecycling/Recy... John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, I say what we need is a WASTE REVOLUTION in the UK, to take place now, because I believe we need to think and handle all our waste as a asset, and at no time should it go to landfill sites. I'm sure every thing we produce can be reused again in one way or another, but I believe because there is so much money involved which comes from our Council tax or Rents, which can be spent by people who are not really accountable for their actions on behalf of the people who actually pay the BILL, which is most of us at the end of the day, Governed by just a few people who all have their own ideas on how to deal with our waste PROBLEMs, with a end result of some Councils are doing a good job, and some are not, even our own Greenwich Council has started a New collection Service, but they are leaving it to the people to sort it out as time goes on, rather than having every thing in place before they started, for example not having enough blue top wheelie bins, or bin liners.
With this in mind I'm now in the position of being The Voice of our Coldharbour Estate, SE9, C.T.R.A. Waste and Recycling Team, which I intend to use, to help REDUCE as much of our waste as I can going to our landfill sites, with the help of others living on our estate, and with the backing of our Greenwich Council I know we can make a BIG difference, simply done by us all working together to help SOLVE any PROBLEMs, that's not going to go away over night, but with some of my outside the box ideas I will be putting forward to every one, we could change the way we do things over night, if used.
May be you want to be a voice for your estate too, and join me in my REVOLUTIONARY thoughts.
For example below is a copy of a C.T.R.A. Coldharbour, Tenants, Residents, Association, meeting paper I gave to our Greenwich Council representatives, to help me know more in the way of 20 questions. What I want at the end of the day is a service that's good value for money, and it deals with our waste as a asset not to be thrown away, but REUSED, I have so many ideas on how to make this come about, but only time will tell if I've been wasting my time or not, so I invite every one to watch this space, as you might find it of interest to you, as I try to change lots of things in my own way, with the help of others, now that I'm in the SYSTEM.
Power to the people who are doing their bit, in their own way all over the world to save our planet for future generations to come.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

C.T.R.A. meeting held on the 27th February 2008, is where people living on our Coldharbour Estate SE9 can have their say, and it will be acted upon in the future.
Here are some questions I would like answers to in regards to our New waste collection service started on Wednesday 21st of January 2008.
(1) Will our Greenwich Council Tax be going up tp pay for it?
(2) How much does it cost to deal with one GREEN TOP WHEELIE BIN?
(3) How much does it cost to deal with one BlUE TOP WHEELIE BIN?
(4) How much does it cost to deal with one Black Bag?
(5) How much does it cost to deal with one DAYs WASTE?
(6) How much does it cost to deal with one WEEKs WASTE?
(7) How much does it cost each person living on our Coldharbour Estate to have their WASTE collected?
(Cool How much does it cost each person living on our Coldharbour Estate to have their STREETs free from rubbish?
(9) How much does it cost each person Living on our Coldharbour Estate to have their LARGE waste collected?
(10) How much does it cost each person living on our Coldharbour Estate to have their CONTAMINATED Wheelie bin dealt with?
(11) How much waste does our Coldharbour Estate produce over all?
(12) How much waste has been put into the GREEN TOP BINs and collected?
(13) How much waste has been put into the BLUE TOP BINs and collected?
(14) How much waste has been put into the BLACK BAGs and collected?
(15) How much waste has been put into the wrong PLASTIC CONTAINERs and collected?
(16) How much of our waste goes to landfill sites?
(17) How much of our waste gets REUSED?
(1Cool How much of our waste gets RECYCLED?
(19) How much would it cost to supply each person who has a WHEELIE BIN, with a Large Clear Bin LINER?
(20) How much would it cost to have our own Coldharbour Recycling Bank?
These are just some of the questions I will be asking The Greenwich Council waste representatives to night.

Which did turn out to be a very good presentation by our Greenwich Council Waste Service People, which I'm sure you could get arranged to where you live if you try.
Did you know if you are a home owner living in Greenwich you are charged £4 a item to have your bulk waste taken away, but if you are a Council Tenant you are not charged, This to me is DISCRIMINATION between peoples waste, and I've accused Greenwich Council and others of it. and I've said I want this to stop straight away or there's going to be a Big PROBLEM in the future, as we own our own house like so many others do, and we pay our Council Tax to cover this already, so WHY should we pay more to have the same type of waste removed?
These are some more of my ideas I'm putting forward.
We must do away with using Black Bags to help prevent people CONTAMINATATING their waste before it goes into the back of the waste collecting lorry.
We must have FREE BIN LINERS, and BAGs.
We must have enough Wheelie Bins for what we throw away.
We must have Free bulk household waste collection.
We must have all our wheelie bins made from clear recycled plastic.
We must have one way of dealing with our waste, to cover the whole of the UK.
We must all try to do our bit in a positive way to reuse and recycle our waste starting from a early age.
We must get our waste PROBLEMs sorted out as soon as possible, otherwise we are going to have a BIG PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, our GREENWICH COUNCIL Waste Management is RUBBISH at dealing with our rubbish, I say this after trying to get our waste delt with in a posative way, to help reduce it going to landfill sites from our Coldharbour Estate SE9, done by trying to make sure every one has a Blue Top Wheelie Bin to use, to help recycle more, and to help reduce the risk of CONTAMINATION, which does happen if some people have only a Green Top Wheelie Bin to use.
I believe this could have all been sorted out years ago, if the Council had said to every one living in a Council House or their own homes, that we must all have a Green Top Wheelie bin supplied by the Council, to use for just food and Garden waste only, with some paper in them for food to be wrapped up in, and they should have also said that we must all have a Blue Top Wheelie bin supplied by the Council to, for what ever else can be reused or recycled, and then maybe adding another one later to cover what ever else was left.
But no they decided to start a New collection service this year, already knowing they would not be able to cope with what should have been already in place, which was Blue Top Wheelie Bins, and clear recycling bags, and a nappy service as promise, and a Management Team of people who actually new what to do.
I have spoken to a lot of our dustmen and people living on our estate, and they say the Greenwich Council Waste Management have not got a clue, they sit in their offices giving out work to be done by each man, not knowing about the job them selves, which of course they will claim is not the case, and saying we will sort things in the future.
For example when someone has taken the time to phone in to tell them they want a Blue Top Wheelie bin to use for example, they get told, they will get one A S P, which could take nearly a year going by some of the people I've spoken to, as each one is dealt with as they are entered down on the list to be ordered. So what happens is someone might want one in Eltham, someone might want one in Woolwich, someone might want one Greenwich, Someone might want one in New Eltham, then someone might want one in Lewisham, and so on, what then happens is a vehicle then travels from one house to another in that order until each one is delivered, that's why its's taking so long, instead of doing a bulk delievery when they have enough to fill one lorry brought in from Germany, to cover a lot more people in one go, who are living in a certain area, and then move on to the next one until we all have our bins to use as a way of life, instead of some Councils supplying boxes, bags, sacks which all have to be picked up at some time with what ever weight they have inside them, where as if we all had the same type of wheelie bin no matter where we lived, this I believe would cut down on our dustmen being injured trying to do their job, oked by someone who's working in a office who has more than likely never done the same job them selves.
Once upon time the dust men worked a job and knock system, and made sure that all our rubbish was removed, as they were seen to be doing a good job if no one complained. But now they have to work certain hours to make the management system work, which is clearly coursing lots of PROBLEMS as they believe the management have not got a clue in the best way to run such an important service. For example did you know if someone wants to change their large wheelie bin for a smaller one, their old wheelie bin is destroyed because it's been used before, and they would rather buy a brand new one instead of giving it to someone else to use, to help keep down cost.
Did you know for years the Greenwich Council accounts department has not been charging some businesses, and schools for example for collecting their rubbish, which they should have, but when they tell the people that they must start to pay now, most of them don't, and they change to a private contractor to do the same job for some reason. So even more money has been missmanaged for years, and no one will be held accountable for it, as it's only our money they are manageing which makes no profit, even though they get everything for free paid for in one way or another by us. I have heard that they are now starting to paint some Green Top Wheelie Bin lids Black to use, I wonder if this is to put the black sacks in to replace us leaving the black sacks out, which then have to be picked up each time not knowing what's in them. Apart from that we are still waiting for about 100 Blue Top Wheelie Bins to cover our estate, which is getting on for three months now since they were ordered by me and others to help solve our recycling PROBLEM. I was told that Bexley waste management has got a system where their peoples waste day is collected with in half an hour of each other, not taking all day like ours, and more when contractor lorrys come round to pick up what the dustmen wont take, because it's been contaminated in some way, which is when people usually put stuff in either bins in black bags, instead of waiting until the righ day for them to be collected, which is once a fortnight where we live in Greenwich at the moment.
I can't wait until the next public meeting of Councillors and MPs, and Waste Management, and C.T.R.A. members to talk about things that concern us in one way or another.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Smile Hi ALL, this is how our Greenwich Council solved our Community Hall Waste Bin PROBLEM of not being emptied by them for a long time, they simply took it away on a large open back lorry and never replaced it with another one, why because they say a bill as not been paid, even though the caretaker said her manager said to her, it had been paid, and can prove it. But no they went a head and took it away, which all came about after me and the caretaker manager keeped complaining about the Community Hall waste bin not being emptied each week ever since they started our New waste collection service back in January, even though the same dustmen go past it to collect rubbish from a tower block just up the end of our road, say about 100 yards away. The crazy bit is. We were told it was not on any list to be emptied by them, even though they had been doing it for years before they started their NEW waste service this year, and they have had the same dustmen who have been told to empty it, do it as well, so you would have thought someone would have said something about our PROBLEM before now, which seems to prove our Greenwich Waste Service is rubbish at dealing with our waste PROBLEMs, as others have told me too.
There is some very good News though, we have just had a lorry load of Blue Top Wheelie Bins to use, giving to lots of people who are living on our Coldharbour Estate SE9.
There is also some more good news, I now have a Gardening friend who's a teacher, and I have a Headmaster at the same school where he works who are both keen on getting my way of growing things up and running as a school project, starting at the end of Mayish, after the children have had their exams, which is the most posative thing I've heard for along time, plus the fact, my system is proving to other it works very well as the years pass, as more and more people who try it will find out.
The only trouble I have is some people think I'm boasting every time I post something to do with the way I feel about things, good or bad, because I stand by what I say, to the point they think I must be mad or on something to carry on in the way that I do. What's the point of having a idea if you can't share it with others, even if they may not agree.
Thank you for taking the time to read my message, I will keep you imformed of our waste bin situation next time I post. John.J.R.P. the Voice of Coldharbours Estate C.T.R.A. Waste and Recycling Team.

best of luck with your school project, john!

Idea Question Smile Hi James, thank you for showing your interest in what I'm trying to do with help of some of my friends.
I'm hopping to use the inside of a fenced for my new project which about 132ft long, which forms a fenced off area which is not being used at the moment to have my vertical growing system next to, and may be having some of my transportable growing systems covering some of the ground, to add to them in some areas which will look like raised up beds. I'm also hopping to reuse over 2,000 waste plastic containers to do this, and have flowers growing in the ones above the fence to, which is about 4ft high, which the children can also help grow if they want to, which I've never shown to anyone before because I was going to do this at the Chelsea Flower Show, but I never got a reply from Mr Bob Sweet the show manager for some reason, maybe it's because there's no money to be made, as my way of doing things involes reusing rubbish, not recycling, and cost next to nothing to do.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P. Smile

i can see the sense in re-using plastic containers. i know the first priority is to reduce the ammount of plastic produced in the first place - but let's face facts, until those gutless idiots at whitehall get wise and impose fines on anyone using virgin plastic gratuitously, things are not going to change.

Recycling plastic is not an option - it produces harmfull gasses, it is costly to do, and you can only recycle plastic a few times before it breaks down into a useless mess. plastic is a long chain molecule - heat it to flashpoint and the molecule halves - six times is about the limit.

re-use is always a better option, and people that put down re-use always have weak excuses.

keep trying

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, LABOUR STAYS SILENT ON WHO FACES WASTE BIN TAX, as reported in a news paper I read today dated the 30-4-2008.
ALMOST two in three homes could be taxed on their rubbish under minister's target, according to the Tories.
They said the Government was plotting to bring in pay-as-you-throw schemes only after the local elections, by refusing to reveal which Councils will be involved in trials, MINISTERS were keeping people in the dark, previous ministers have said trials will be run in just five areas, and that 14 unnamed local authorities have expressed interest in taking part. But the TORIES PRODUCED DOCUMENTS CONTAINING PLANS which said officials believe BIN TAXES will mean that 'just over 62 per cent of HOUSEHOLDS are COVERED by CHARGING SCHEMES'. Labour intend to spread bin taxes across the country, which will cause a massive public backlash. The public have the right to know if their TOWN HALL is going to INCREASE TAXES on them after the elections.
In 2007 a Environment Secretary threw his weight behind PAY-AS-YOU-THROW TAXES, PILOTS can go ahead once the CLIMATE CHANGE BILL, which is currently before Parliament makes it legal for Councils to make additional CHARGES FOR RUBBISH COLLECTION, ON TOP OF COUNCIL TAX.
DEFRA says FAMILIES are likely to be BILLED for the WEIGHT of rubbish they put out, or for the NUMBER of SACKS or BLACK BAGS they use.
BINS would be IDENTIFIED by MICROCHIPS. But Councils could also charge in other ways. MINISTERS say the charges would encourage US to RECYCLE MORE and put out LESS WASTE.. But they do acknowledge that families, who inevitably generate the most waste, will be hardest hit. COSTS were originally put at about £30 a year, but Ministers then admitted they are more likely to be £50, other analysts believe they could hit £100.

(me) I believe the reason Councils want us to pay more for dealing with our waste is, they are contracting more and more out to anybody who wants to do the job, using our money to pay for someone else to do it, rather than do it them selves. This way the management can blaim others if something goes wrong with the system, so when we see a Council Waste collection lorry with there name on it, this does not mean the men in it are employed by the Council its self, this applies to lots of other services too.
What I believe is unfair about the way the waste system works is, People are being charged more in one way or another if they happen to live in a house or have their own bin collection service laid on, but the people who happen to live in tower blocks for example don't, why, when they must throw away just as much waste, if not more.
By the way we have now got a NEW waste bin at out Colharbour Estate Community Hall, to replace our one they took away a week ago because of a PROBLEM with the system.
And today I've just shown my gardening school teacher friend how to make my vertical growing system, made from reusing lots of waste 4 pint milk containers he had already collected to do the job on his plot or at his school, with the use of some long and short bean canes he now knows how to grow things like me. to show others. John.J.R.P.

putting microchips on bins is the stupidest idea yet. what is to stop people putting their rubbish in a neighbour's bin? i've had it happen to me. when it's full, they put non-recyclable waste in my recycle bins. we don't have back yards round here, so there is no way to keep the bins locked up. why target the victims instead of the true perpetrators? our bins would have less waste in them if the reatail industry didn't over-package things. they should legislate to keep packaging to a minimum, not let producers create big bulky packs for small items, and allow people to push flyers and unwanted brochures through our letterboxes. did you know the government has increased the permitted limit to how much junk mail they can push through our letterboxes? why should i have to pay to get rid of something i never asked for in the first place?

Very Happy Smile Hi ALL, guess who's appearing on BBC 1 EastEnders Monday the 12 May 2008 at 8:00pm and on Sunday the 18 May 2008 ( Sunday Omnibus ), NO it's not me playing the part of a excentric professor, who's into reusing waste and gardening, and trying to help save lives for next to nothing. It's our youngest grandson Oaklee, who's playing the part of FELIX, who's a doctors young son.
We ask Oaklee did he have a good time being filmed, he said yes, and then he told us everyone said hello, and asked what was his name, and he said OAKLEE , and they shook hands, we said who did you meet, he told us that he had met Barbra Windsor, and all the other people involved in making the programme, who all said they hope to see him again as he was such a good boy.
Oaklee then showed us a photo of himself standing next to Barbra Windsor, and some other members of the cast, which his Mum or Dad took to remind him of the 2 days he spent Filmimg on EastEnders
That reminds me I must take a photo of him to go with my other grandchildren shown on my website doing something, to show other children and adults what they can do too.
With this in mind I've just met a young teacher who's very interested in the way I grow things who's school is near the Elephant & Castle in London, I'm going to show him how to make it first, then he can show others who might be interested too. I might even go there to help him set things up, like I'm going to do with my other school project starting soon.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Smile Hi ALL, I want to grow RICE in my plastic transportable container system TO HELP FEED THE POOR, but I can't do this as we don't grow rice to eat in the UK.
If you can help me do this in any way I'm sure it wont be a waste of your time and effort, as I do believe the way I grow things now will work to grow rice on a small or large scale all over the world, as it's designed to be in control of water and space, and it will also cost next to nothing to make helping to solve lots of POBLEMS at the same time.
If you do grow rice where you live now please give my system a go, thank you. May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Question Very Happy Hi ALL, on Saturday the 19-7-2008 I did a presentation of my reuse of waste to grow food idea at our local churchs 50th birthday, where the weather played a big part in having lots of local people enjoying what was laid on by our lady vicar, I was also lucky enough to meet and speak to our deputy lady Mayor for Bromley to, who was very impressed with what she had seen with own eyes, and said she would tell others. It was also a great day for me as lots of local people had seen my growing systems set up, but they never knew who had done it until they met me. I was also lucky enough to have my presentation already set up just inside the main front doors to the church, so every one of all ages coming in or out stopped and said hello, and asked about the way I grew things, saying they would like to help spread the word on my behalf after me giving them my website address to see more. Some people who live very close to my projects want me to help them set things up where they live as it involves using a sharp knife and helping to fix things in place, which I've agreed to do when they have collected enough of their waste containers for me to do so.
With this in mind I do hope the dustmen are going to be told they must clear all of our rubbish by the Councils no matter what it is, seeing as they went on strike last week and it is now black bag week to where we live, which makes contamination more likely to have taken place. What I can't understand is yes all the people involved must belong to the same union, but I do believe the dustman are now paid by subcontractors not the Council, even though they use their vehicals to manage our waste. Idea Question Very Happy Hi astrablue, what a good idea, in the past I've suggested that you could grow things in old rags to use with soil or compost, which I believe will work very well as your own idea proves, I'm working on the idea Mother Nature will try to grow something in anything providing it has some water for the roots.
I hope some one who grows their own food who's living in a poor way will put both ideas together, now you have proved rags hold water like I have done in my own way too.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, today the 26-7-2008 a lady allotment plot holder decided to started growing things the way I do on her allotment plot, on our allotment plot site with a little bit of help from me, as she said her newly acquired overgrown allotment plot was just to hard to dig over and clear of weeds and brambles in the time she has to do it.
What she has already done so far is clear about 5 poles by 5 poles and put up a small shed with the help of others, so she doesn't mind getting stuck in when it comes to hard work, it's just she was so impressed with the way I grew things she wants to give it a try. So I agreed to help her in any way I could, starting with some large unwanted wooden pallets which my son got for me to use, laying them straight down on top of the high grass and weeds to make a raised up base, we then layed one unwanted sheet of 8ft-4ft plywood on top to be what she walked on and put my transportable container system on too. I then gave her 6 rows of 6 pinters (60) in total to use as her base ones interlocked and held together with some string tied around the end parts of the beams, so the end containers could not come off, which worked out about 4ft-3 and half feet, leaving about 1ft down the middle before starting rows of 4 pinter as base containers on the other side, so we already know we can get 120 base contaners on her 8-4 platform, adding 2 more unwanted wooden pallets and another sheet of 8-4 plywood will double that, and so on, in 5 minutes she had set up her new growing area ready to use while I filmed her doing it and I took some photos to, to add to my daily record of what I did on a certain day at a certain time to show others who might like to know, at last I've found someone who can tell others about the way she grows things using my idea. I've ask her if I can put some of the photos onto my website, and she said it was ok, the only problem is I will have to take some of my others photos off, as I've got no more room on my website for the money we pay.
Some other good news is my potato bit experiment is now showing signes of growing just in horse manure, which proves to me Mother nature plays a very big part in our lives.
OK who would like to eat something that's grown in -horse manure, don't all rush I haven't had my potato's tested yet, I can't see any problems apart from eating the skin, ha ha, seeing as we already grow some things in manure which get eaten.
With this in mind I've just suggested to someone living in Africa that they dig out a area and fill it with old rags to help retain any water, covering them over with what they had just dug out, adding manure as well to a contained area could change the whole way of growing things if the man trys it out, as well as using my system to of course.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi All, did you see me on SKY three TV on Wednesday the 13-8-2008 to do with the Secret world of Suburbia ( Gardening ), as I would like to know what you thought of my simple to make ideas, which I've also shown on my website to help spread the word we can reuse, and recycle lots of our waste to help reduce it going to landfill sites.
Plus I've just added a photo of my youngest grandson who played FELIX the doctors son on Eastenders this year for you to look at as part of my (Young Gardeners) family tree.
Very soon I hope to be putting lots more photos and info on to my website to cover my other ideas for you to look at, I might even be able to have a page where people can leave some comments or feadback, to add to what some people already say about me on other websites I post on. John.J.R.P.

Idea Question Very Happy Hi ALL, just a short up date on the way I grow things to let you know that I'm now growing flowers for the first time in my containers to help promote my water recycling system. I've done this by buying some reduced Dianthus which B&Q were selling for one pound a tray, which I've dead headed and they are now showing some more growth, these should look good with there different colours, replacing the lettuces which have now gone to seed mostly at the Community Learning Centre and the Church projects. Of course I will add some more photos to my website in the future to show you, like my other growing ideas, when I get some more space to do so. John.J.R.P. Smile

Very Happy Idea Question Hi ALL, for those who would like to know things are moving in WASTE SERVICES!
KENT'S FIRST INDOOR RECYCLING CENTRE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
PEPPERHILL Household Waste Recycling Centre is designed to manage up to 130,000 tonnes of waste.

IT DEALS WITH EVERYTHING FROM SCRAP METAL TO TEXTILIES AND TYRES AND SPETACLES TO ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AS WELL AS GENERAL HOUSEHOLD AND GARDEN WASTE.

The £3.6m site in STATION Road, NORTHFLEET, has been open to all Dartford and GRAVESEND residents since September 1st.
Cash for the NEW centre, which has 10 STAFF and is only one of two in the country, has been provided by KENT COUNTY COUNCIL ( KCC ), which is RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RUNNING OF THE SITE.
KCC cabinet member for ENVIRONMENT, HIGHWAYS and WASTE COUNCILLOR Mr KEITH FERRIN says he expects 300,000 visits annually.
He said: "Since the site opened it has been doing very well and lots of people have been visiting. "During the first month we RECYCLED 71 per cent of REFUSE brought to the site, which was the FIGURE WE WERE AIMING FOR. "It's early days but I'm hoping for even more visitors. "This isn't just aimed at Gravesend and Dartford residents but also people who live right across Kent."
THE SITE HAS A DRIVE-THROUGH SYSTEM AIMED AT MAKING IT EASY TO UNLOAD ITEMS.
Bright icons are used to direct CUSTOMERS to the correct area of the centre. THE SITE IS A SINGLE LEVEL BUILDING COVERING AROUND A HECTARE.
GREETERS show visitors how to use the site and HELP THEM TO RECYCLE. There are NO STEPS TO CLIMB to unload goods.
There are marked bays for different types of household waste, visitors can drive into the bays and then tip their rubbish into the necessary compartment.
Site manager Mr TREVOR YOUNG said: On arrival at the centre, customers will be met by our TRAINED GREETERS who will show visitors how to use the site and assist them with their recycling.
"THE FACT THE SITE IS UNDERCOVER MEANS COSTOMERS CAN RECYCLE IN COMFORT RATHER THAN BEING EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. "IT'S THESE EXTRA TOUCHES WHICH MAKE VISITING PEPPERHILL A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE AND ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO RECYCLE EVEN MORE."
TV presenter and ENVIRONMENTALIST PHILIPPA FORRESTER officially opened the site last week. She said: I'm very proud to be able to launch this exciting new facility.
"This is the first time I have visited an INDOOR RECYCLING CENTRE. I would now like to see one where I live as I'm very big on recycling."
She added: "WE LIVE ON A SMALL PLANET AND OUR RESOURCES ARE DWINDLING SO PEOPLE MUST RECYCLE EVERYTHING THEY CAN.
"I think centres such as Pepperhill which are undercover and easy to use will encourage them to do so."
THE PEPPERHILL SITE IS OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, FROM 8am TO 4.30pm

(me)
Now that's what I call adding a very good idea to help deal with our Waste PROBLEM, simply done by the Council and public working together in a well thought out way. Smile

Idea Question Very Happy Rolling Eyes Hi ALL, what about this for a headline. RECYCLING CLEAR OF THE FIELD as reported in our Greenwichtime dated the 18-11-2008.
GREENWICH FIGURES BEST IN THE COUNTRY. THE GREEN ISSUE page.
GREENWICH'S green credentials went up another notch with the news that the borough has sent less waste to landfill than ANY other local authority in ENGLAND for the SECOND YEAR running. Just three per cent of all rubbish in Greenwich goes to landfill, according to figures for 2007/8 just released by the Government.
That means Greenwich has OUT-PERFORMED ALL OTHER AUTHORITIES FOR TWO YEARS. What's more 43 per cent of ALL household waste is being RECYCLED.

The results also show that last year Greenwich recycled or composted 31 per cent of all houshold waste, up from 24 per cent in 2006/7
It means the borough has EXCEEDED its annual target set by the Government, and is set to meet the key 2010 recycling goals a year early.
Our Cllr Rajwant Sidhu, Greenwich Council's cabinet member for a GREENER GREENWICH, said: "We are delighted with the performance in 2007/08 and are also extremely happy to see that the new system is having such a positive effect on our recycling rates. "We would like to thank residents for their efforts so far, and hope they will work with us to achieve even better results in the future. We still need to keep getting better and better at recycling here, as everywhere, and hope all residents will take extra care to recycle as much of their waste as possible, and to put the right waste in the right bin."

(ME) It's nice to read about all the TENENTS and RESIDENTS and BUSINESS and SCHOOL CHILDREN and everyone else in Greenwich doing their bit to help deal with our waste PROBLEM.
I'm sure once we do away with the black bags all together, and we are all supplied with clear bags to use, along with a BLACK TOP WHEELIE BIN if we want one, then we will all see trying to deal with everyones waste will become far more easyer in one way or another in the future.
Whist in the past year I think most people thought the Greenwich Waste Management did not have a clue on how to run their new collection system to help recycle more, why for example not supplying everyone with a BLUE TOP WHEELIE BIN before starting it on the 21st of January 2008, and not suppling us with clear bags too, I'm very pleased to say now the Council Management have been listerning to the people who are trying to make the system work, with a end result so far that we now have a regular 3 times in one day collection service, first to go is any black bags, then the Blue top Wheelie bin is emptied, and then the Green top Wheelie bin, and then we have a vehical going round another day collecting what the dustmen leave as contaminated.
At this point I would Like to claim on behalf of our Coldharbour Estate SE9 Tenents and Resedents and everyone else, RECYCLING IS CLEAR OF THE FIELD, THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY, adding to the Greenwich authoritys claims that we are the best at doing our bit to help the envirenment as the latest figures show.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy, and may all your waste be reused again in one way or another to help reduce it going to landfill sites. John.J.R.P. Smile
