There's Never Been a Better time to Start Shooting!

The number of first time applications for shotguns has reached its highest level in ten years. According to Home Office figures, there were 26, 450 new applications in 2002/03 of which only 350 were refused. Similar news applies to firearms. The number of applications for new firearm certificates, which covers rifles and other firearms in a far more rigorous licensing system, has also risen to its highest level since 1996!....In 2002/03, out of 8,670 applications for first time firearm certificates, only seventy were refused. BASC's Bill Harriman said "We have detected an increasing popularity in lawful shooting sports over the last few years, and our own membership has also reached record levels. Although the UK has some of the toughest firearms legislation in the world, responsible shooting is playing an increasingly important role in the economy". More details from www.BASC.org.uk

Very interesting Madman (and lovely new avatar too).

As an extremely new shooter...if I can even call myself that...I'm still finding it difficult to find information of all sorts on what to do, where to go, etc. We have joined BASC, which is interesting and useful, but it doesn't really seem to cover everything for the complete beginner.

Do you have any advice/suggestions for newcomers to shooting? I don't know exactly what you've done in your past life but you must have advised a fair few beginners about safety etc? Any advice would help!

'Ello Bugs. ...Where to start....Ok, You say you are a newcomer, ..What are you shooting with right now, at what, and where do you do it?

Your details show that you are in the South East....Are you able to get to Bisley? in Surrey?..If so as a BASC member you can enjoy viewing the range day on April 28th, where members will be using centre fire rifles on teh 100 yard ranges. This would allow you to get talking with BASC members and staff.

Still shooting, Bugs?

I'm shooting at Bisley in a couple of weekends - trying to win a medal Smile

Bugs an I must really make an effort and go shooting at our local club a few times before the end of the year.

Funny you should mention Bisley vegplot, that's where our club shoot at weekend events. We've never been yet but must get round to visiting soon.

Good luck with your competition, when are you going?

It's the Autumn Action Weekend 25-26th October. I've entered four comps on the Saturday - Gallery Rifle centre fire. My first attempt so going in unranked.
