I'll post a list of things to bring later this week, I hope.

Have you persuaded The Barefooted one to join us yet Mochyn?

If we waft the aroma of fresh out of the oven coffee cake his way, it may do the trick ...

EV

R&S cake may work.

Why is it called the mid winter meet? Surely it's the 'about 2/3rds of the way through autumn meet'

mochyn

OK any more for any more? Who else fancies coming?

So far we've decided on craftiness for the daytime on Saturday: this will be making decorations, do-able for children and adults alike. I'll be there from 10 a.m.

Saturday eveing: silly games, perhaps a sing song, I'll bring a CD player.

Sunday: the hall will be available all day and we thought people might like a walk: there's a lovely circular walk, it can be extended or shortened.

Food:

Soup and bread for Sat. lunch
Chilli from Chez
Chickpea curry from EV
Lasagne from Helen M
Rice and salad from me (these 4 for Sat. evening)

Choc/banana cake EV

Eating up lunch on Sunday!

Who would like to offer to do cakes/puds? Judith will do some nibbly things and mince pies.

The old chap is getting in a couple of polypins of local beers as well as various soft drinks.

Have I forgotten anything food wise? Is there anyone coming with particular dietary requirements?

We've also decided on a price of £5 per adult (no charge for children) which should cover everything except alcohol for which there will be a collection at the event. If you spend any money on food or things for the weekend keep a redord and we'll reimburse you.

Another thing we'll need is craft materials for the decorations: old wrapping paper, cards, cloth, that sort of thing: it would be nice to use as many recycled thigs as possible!

if anyone has any other ideas for things to do/use/eat post them and I'll post anything else I think of.

I'll pm everyone soon with directions for how to find us.

I'm editing this as I go!
earthyvirgo

Minor amend from the cook to say Chickpea curry, not casserole Smile

I could make a banana and choc bread and butter pud or similar if you like Mochyn?

EV
Dogwalker

I'll bring a tray of cake of some sort, how about choc brownies.

Why does Christmas have to be at Christmas Sad
judith

You would be very welcome to come here and celebrate Christmas at some other time of year. Very Happy
Penny

Very Happy

Another few years, and we'll be free as birds Cool
Chez

I feel a bit like that about it. I haven't been home in December for about twenty years because it's all so stressy, what with holly wreaths and poinsettias and stuff. Everyone then recovers enough by Christmas lunch-time to have a massive row about what to watch on the telly and spend the evening sulking.

Perhaps we should have an elective mid-summer Christmas, for those of us in similar situations?
judith

That's a rather nice thought to hold on to.

ETA: That was to Penny. But a mid-summer Christmas doesn't sound bad.
Nell

sounds a good plan..my reasonable "amicable" christmas for the children has gone t*ts up Sad
Chez

Well then, we'll just have to make the two mid-winter gatherings extra-nice for you all to enjoy.

That is one of the many benefits of having a dog. When that moment comes around, you just leap up cheerfully and announce that you are going for a walk.

Did you want me to look into finding a babysitter, BTW?

Not in my mother's house. It simply prompts a passive-aggressive session about who is going to take them out and where they are going.

Sadly not - it's not a normal shop. There's technical stuff to do... takes a while to learn

I can't wait. I'm planning something for the slow cooker, masses of Christmas junk food and a long walk on the beach with the dogs. Which means it'll rain ... sorry everyone!

Tea ... and cake, coffee cake I think might be a temptation.

I've just revised my offering of banana and choc bread and butter pud having found a wicked recipe for a fruity bread and butter chocolate pudding, a sinful pud if ever there was.

Well, if your move date gets moved again (or is that again again Sad ) before next weekend then you could still come. But anyway me and Chez don't count you've met us.

Mochyn, I think you said the kitchen facilities are pretty good at Dolanog?

Would it be OK if I cooked my pudding 'on site' as it's going to be a lot nicer straight out of the oven .... not putting myself under any pressure to get it spot on of course Smile

I suppose I could...hmmm, how long from trowbridge to yours?
judith

Not sure, to be honest. Chez would have a better idea.
Chez

Three hours and forty seven minutes.

How would that work with the children, though?
Barefoot Andrew

3 hours and 47 minutes of endurance possibly, but then they'll be exhausted and will positively demand to go to bed immediately, leaving the adults to party on. Meanwhile, back in the real world...

There was pretty good bet-timeage when the Mini-M's stayed with us - so don't despair, Andrew Wink

In where? Fortunately I cannot stay until Sunday. Confused

Morda. Near Oswestry. You keep going along the A483 until you see a big flaming mountain with an ever-seeing-eye on the top, and turn there.

Edited to add link to the Poultry Garden, which had the info.. Not sure whether you will have to become a member to view it - they are a nice lot of poultry-mad people.

Perhaps I will bring my cushion cover material ... . Can I borrow a sewing machine? Not sure I will have room for one once I've put in all the poultry ...
judith

Yep. Don't worry about machines - I have two!

I was also thinking - does Arvo want to bring his sharpening stuff too? I have an assortment of axes, etc, that could do with sharpening and I'd quite like to learn how to do it properly.
