What screen resolution do you use? An IT poll for everyone!Could I do a quick finger in the air as to what screen resolution most people use these days?

I'd like more detail on screen and the graphics cards can do it but I don't want that large a screen on my desk!

I should have said, my 4 monitors are all on the same PC. Monitors are cheap and the bigger the desktop the better!

Ummmm...what's screen resolution and where would I be able to see the numbers that would tell me what mine is?

If you're running xp right click on the screen and select 'properties', then click the tab 'settings' to find the screen resolution.
If you're running Vista right click on the screen and select 'personlize', then click the tab 'display settings' to find the screen resolution.

Does '1680 x 1050' make sense? Does that mean I have a big willy now?

glad you asked - I'm retouching photos on a dual screen Apple system and have just checked and found that one of them is 1152x870 and the other is 1024x768. That explains a problem or two.
Who's been messing with my monitors?
Think I'll set them both to 1152x870 as long as you guys don't do too much of that tiny tiny type

Make your fonts bigger, that way you have the ebst of both worlds.

Bump!
We're having a bit of a techie chat about how Downsizer appears on different displays, and we'd be particularly interested to hear if many folk browse DS on mobile devices with small displays.

I think it should be a new poll, I'd imagine quite a few people have moved on from 1024x768 since May08

1280x800 on the laptop. Refuse to pay astronomical fees for mobile browsing so can't help you with that!

I think we're probably more interested in descriptions of user experience of browsing DS on a small device rather than specific resolutions per se. In particular:-
1. Is browsing the DS main site or the forum on a hand-held a painful experience at the moment or does it work just fine and dandy?
2. How does this compare with using a fixed-width site such as Beeb news? (assuming you're browsing the main edition and not the mobile version)

That's not awkward, it's correct.

I sometimes browse on my phone, but not very often (once every 2 months or so perhaps, or less), and I have to say it isn't a perfect experience, but it's doable if you want to browse only.
Posting doesn't work from my phone (Nokia 5800), though I can type an entire message out! It's the submit post button that doesn't seem to work.

Yeah, would be good to have the mobile css make avatars invisible.

I browse occasionally from my phone - it's not brill but OK I've not tried posting though I'd like to do it more.... I pay a flat fee for mobile internet and since I find the odd FaceBook usage to chill out in the middle of a stressful work day (whilst on the loo - only place I can get away with it!) a necessity I might as well browse this as well!!

I've got a BB Curve, and most forums are a pain to use in the standard Blackberry browser. Unfortunately alternative browsers don't use the BIS compression feature, so load pages slower than an electrified sloth.
Home PC is 1280x1024, work pc is 1680x1050, work laptop is 1280x800.
My own laptop is 800x640, but I expect things not to fit on that screen.
