Flat & Fitted Sheets

I want to make my own but I am really struggling to find fabric that is wide enough and I refuse to sleep on polyester or any poly blend. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Nick

Do I get extra points for being brave enough to ask how wide you need?
Woo

wasnt there anther thread about this?
larger duvet cover than bed, king size for a double etc
Mum makes me fitted sheets for the odd size beds the kids have in caravan hell. she buys nice cotton fabric duvet covers in sales and cuts them up them and adds knicker elastic to make them fit.

King sized bed.

Actual dimensions? Not all king sizes are the same.

Thanks... but it needs to be 267cm minimum using a 1cm seam allowance along the sides for the flat sheets.
Shan

I need to measure for the fitted sheet because we have quite a thick mattress plus a memory foam topper. Shan

I was thinking I might have to concede defeat and buy flat sheets to make the fitted sheets. If it comes down to it - it is the fitted sheet that is currently the big bugbear.

Why not just use flat sheets? Hospital corners look much better than elasticated wrinkles (IMO). Also flat sheets are much easier to iron (if you are the ironing type) and to fold for storage. Shan

There's a thought.

A tucked under flat sheet lasts no time with Mr Shan, Poppy-cat and me in bed. Bloody cat.

Postage is a killer, but they have better quality, and larger sizes.
Shan

I might be able to get a friend to solve the postage problem. She's going to New York in Feb. Nick

A US king size set of sheets and pillow cases is about 10 inches cubed and weighs about two kilos. Give her exact measurements in inches, as king size varies in different States/stores.

Can you tell I've done this before?
Shan

Indeed. Laughing

She will be flying Business class.... better baggage allowance!!!!

Cats are not allowed to share beds in this house! Exactly how deep do the sides need to be? I found these on evil Amazon. You can buy direct from the manufacturer if you want to boycott Amazon. http://www.homescapesonline.com/.

Peter Reed do bespoke designs http://www.peterreed.com/design-services/one-off-designs and offer better quality fabrics.

Essentially White sell high thread count flat sheets up to Emperor size if you decide to go for the make your own option http://www.essentiallywhite.co.uk/

31 cm's excluding the undertuck.

That's not too bad. Thanks. Nick

She is not. They all tell you that. They are vermin. All four of ours have told the same story, when it suits them.

does anyone know of a good make of linen bed linen please.

I fancy some proper linen king sized sheets & duvet covers but they come expensive so I want recommendations first.

So if you've tried them (or even seen some in the flesh) please let me know what / where & what they are like.

Thanks

I don't dispute that she is vermin, however, I do assure you, she is a complete f*&k up!

Have you checked Ikea...lot of their bedding is 100% cotton and they do fabrics too..though I'm not sure of the widths.

Would you be able to use slightly narrower fabric and seam the extra width as panels on sides...slightly 'extra fitted'..as long as the main flat area is just one piece?

Btw...I've just make some bedding..pillow cases from Ikea's cotton fabric and it is really nice quality... Wink
Shan

Ironically, I am going to Ikea on Saturday - good idea. Thanks!
