Let me guess.
You put the feeder directly on top of the frames, & not over the feeder hole in a crown board?
I would wait until they have filled it with capped honey then put a clearer board between it & the super below & harvest once the bees are gone.
If you have been feeding syrup the honey will almost certainly be contaminated but it will be OK to feed it back to the bees for winter stores.no smilies

I may be daft, but No! I know how to use a feeder properly and I listened better than that at Bee school and I've read plenty of books - but obviously not the same ones as these bees!

I hived a swarm - then fed using an eke.

Initially the feeder was on a crown board, but I took that out because I wanted them to have every opportunity to go downstairs.

I'm waiting for them to fill the box,and start using the comb downstairs for laying, then once I'm happy that the queen is in the brood box I'll put a queen excluder on and allow them to fill this lovely wild comb with 'honey', then I'll extract it and feed it back to them to store in a proper super because I did feed syrup so it's not real honey.

I just thought I'd share the photo because these bees make me laugh!no smilies

Shouldn't that say to store in the brood box (because it's syrup): I guess Bee School said something like don't feed syrup if you have supers on ;). Generally.no smilies

I always leave a super on over the winter - that's the one I'm planning to let them store it in.

I don't particularly want them to get the brood box honey-bound when they'll need the space for brood!

Credit me with some gumption!no smilies
