Open office 3.0 file associationsIs there a quick and easy way of doing this? I can't seem to be able to find anything and it needs to be simple as I have to instruct someone else over the phone.

Can you explain a bit more? Associating existing files? Or saving ones you've created?

associating existing microsoft office files so that when clicked on open office starts up rather than 'cannot find program'

If you right-click on the document file, is it bringing up the menu with the option 'open with other application'? Presumably if you choose that, Open Office is available?
If I remember rightly, there should be an option to 'always use this programme to open this type of document' at the bottom of the box?
I am about to reboot and use windows, so I'll have a look and be back in half an hour or so ...

Which OS? Chez is right, and there's another method too.
Vista:
Right click Word doc - Opens With - Open Office 3.0 (tick box to make it default)
Alternatively (on Vista):
Right click Word doc - properties - click 'change' button next to 'Opens with' in first tab - change to Open Office (no need for the tick box this way)
