Organic veg prices

Below is my local suppliers prices for home grown certified organic.

Beetroot* - 1.50
Cabbage* - 1.20
Calabrese* 3.50
Carrots - 1.18
Chard* - 3.90
Courgette* 2.50
Cucumber* 1.00ea
Garlic* - 8.48
Lettuce* 1.12-1.40
Mustard* - 3.90
Onions* - 1.48
Onions (red)* 1.70
Potatoes* 0.75
Potatoes - 0.89
(Pink fir and Golden Wonder)
Sweetcorn* - 0.80ea
Tomatoes vine UK - 3.90

Prices are per kg unless stated.

I thought it might be useful for people to compare and contrast.

I'm not much of a prices person, but have you tasted Golden Wonder? I've always fancied growing them but they're a main crop and I like to reuse the space

Just had a look at some compariive supermarket prices from Sainsburys

Courgettes - 3.00kg
Cherry toms on thevine - 11.06kg
Cherry toms off the vine - 5.40kg
Garlic - 9.88kg
Baking pots - 1.10kg
Red pots - 0.70kg
Onions - 1.28kg
Red Onions - 2.14kg
Lettuce (little gem) - 5.95kg

Jonnyboy does your supplier grow them him/herself or are they obtainingthem from another supplier?

Yes the prices are for organic

Golden Wonder are Ok but I prefer Queens or kerrs pink - Both very floury. English tastes run to a waxier spud.

Golden Wonder is a good chipper IIRC.

Personally I would prefer a big bowl of mash with loads of butter and black pepper

We only have mash with smoked haddock really, so that's about once a month. She likes wedges & roasties, I like jackets

Microwaved jacket spuds are an abomination and should be smited.

Please tell me you're an oven man and you eat all the crispy skins up?

I would rather eat the crispy skins than what's inside them to be honest, the crispier the better. You won't believe this but neither my wife or mother in law knew how to make a jacket potato before I showed them Shocked

They didn't know how to cook rice either Wink

Seriously though if I'm at my mum's there's usually at least a few people that don't eat the skins and I'll polish them all off.
