Overwintering pelargoniums

I bought some beautiful pelargoniums in France this summer, and want to try to keep them alive for next year. What's the best way to do this? Obviously they need to be kept frost-free, but I don't know how warm they need to be to survive, and when to do the cuttings for next year etc?
