Painted Ladies

Ten days ago the fields were filled with these butterflies. Apparently they have flown in from Africa and would have laid their eggs in the thistles. These fields need topping at some point and we were wondering when? There's no rush to do them but does anyone know if it makes any sense to leave those fields for some time? The butterflies or caterpillars don't survive our winter in any case do they?

Think I might have found the answer, all this happens in a short time. All done in about four to five weeks. Incredible. Smile
