Paperwork for Pig slaughterApologies if this has already been asked and answered - I did do a search and found (I think) part of the info I need but not all.
I am taking 2 pigs off to slaughter within the next few weeks. They are both under a year old. From what I understand, it will be ok if I slap mark both shoulders. I'm not tagging their ears.
I will need to take with me movement license: AML 2 and the Food Chain Information form.
Am I missing anything or do I have anything wrong?

You ned your movement form, mark (we tag ears) and what I call the BPEX form.
What's the proper name?
You may be asked to fill out an undertaking to cleanse the vehicle at the abbatoir but they keep those forms there.

It sounds as if though you have it all sorted. Our last two went this morning. Bless them they were so good and trusting.

Thanks both. It is my first time so I want to make sure I have dotted my 'i's' and crossed my 'T's'

you may well have to fill out a wash down form at the slaughter house never used to but the last 3 visits have had to but they will tell you that at the slaughter house.

Have you done it before?
If not, there's a food chain form that has to be submitted 24 hours before you turn up. That's a once per supplier thing, then there's a form you can submit on the day, or 24 hours in advance for each batch (and a further one if you have used medicine, I think).
The rules state 24 hours, but my local slaughterhouse would allow me to bring it on the day, although they were under no obligation to do so. Failure to have this paperwork in place may result in you losing your beasts. Ring them, and check, they'll be helpful.
That aside, you're on top of it all.

I think that's the BPEX form I was talking about. BPEX are helpful: drop them an e-mail and they'll get back to you.
I was never asked for it 24 hours in advance, but then I've been taking pigs for slaughter since before it came in! I just bring it with me on the day.

| Quote: | Timing
For the time being, there is a relaxation of the requirement for FCI to be received by
slaughterhouse operators at least 24 hours in advance of receipt of animals.
Although this means that FCI may be sent with the pigs, it will not give operators
time to check and act on it. Most pig slaughterhouses schedule the delivery of pigs
from specific suppliers well in advance of slaughter. FSA recommends that
slaughterhouse operators ask suppliers to provide FCI long enough before delivery
to the slaughterhouse to enable them and the OV to take any necessary action. |
Issued in 2007. Some flexibility, but one to be wary of.

Thanks, I'll chat to the slaughter place about when they want it. It is the first time I'm doing it.

On a practical note I'd load the pigs into the trailer the evening before. Chaos often ensues and it's much lass stressful if you've got plenty of time to get the little horrors in rather than ending up shouting "Get in you swine, we've got to be there in half an hour!"

Good point... except I think it would go more along the lines of "Get in you big swine!"
