Help!!!! Why are they magic mushrooms and where have my chillis and peppers gone?

How long have they been planted, were they in an unheated greenhouse, was it too wet or dry?
I f they're in an unheated greenhouse it won't have been warm enough for germination (unless you're very lucky), much better to start indoors and then pot up into the greenhouse.

Could be the compost - I've been having the same problem this year. Normally I'm a bit cavalier about disinfecting seedtrays, but I was a good girl this year so I know it isn't due to anything hanging around in the pots. Since the problem is also occurring on seed trays that haven't been in the propagator, and I'm not prone to overwatering that leaves the finger of suspicion pointing towards not-very-well-sterilised compost methinks.
I don't think mine are magic mushrooms, though. They don't have that little nipple bit at the top.

When we've used some of the wood pulp based composts we often had crops of small fungi. On larger plants they were not a problem but on seedlings they could be. What compost did you use?

They are in a heated greenhouse and I can see the odd pepper just starting to germinate but think they are being outcompeted by the magic mushrooms. I'm using some peat free grow bags from the garden centre so no unsterilised seed trays that could have containated them. I have got an automatic watering system set up in the greenhouse set to water every night for about ten minutes which does ok for the cucumbers and aubergines and toms. These are in B and Q grow bags rather than the ones from the garden centre and haven't sprouted any mushrooms magic or otherwise. Should I rescue the seeds or compost bin the lot and start again with fresh seeds and some B&Q grow bags?
