Why are there by-laws in any case?

I really dont know, but I too am trying to fight my council so i can hang on to my chickens as someone in my close has complained to the council stating that it says in the tenency book " No Farm Animals",
im hoping the petition works because the rulings are stupid especially in this day and age wjhen they are trying to encourge you to be self sufficiant ect.

look through the threads for a post in chat about, or headed, c of e eviction. there is an old law about allotments that overides any current law or covenant prohibiting the keeping of chickens.

good luck

Welcome to the forum Ladyloulee.

I like chickens - I think more people should keep chickens - I think some people have problems keeping chickens which are unnecessary. BUT I'm not convinced that ANYONE, where ever they live should be allowed to keep chickens.

(Battery chicken farmers being one group who oughtn't to be allowed)

Jamanda, agreed.
However, signed and shared via facebook and twitter...

should that read "EVERYONE" then?

I think the emphasis was really on ANY one, but the petition does state properly kept.
I don't think it should be legal to prevent someone from keeping hens, evict them or threaten them with eviction, just because they live in rented property or some local law or covenant says they can't.
This still leaves the way open for them to be removed if they are causing a health nuisance, and no doubt many people will still use that as an excuse to harass even responsible chicken keepers, but it will make it harder.
