In principle, probably. I get the message: Error. Failed to copy. Maybe the pic is too big? How do I make it smaller?

Scroll left by about 6 cm & click on the 'Sizing digital images' link.

If necessary, I can resize one pic for you and then talk you through what I did.

I do not find the Image size option in my picture viewer.
Simon

If you choose to attach an image in the normal way then the 'resize image to 640 x 480' button should already be selected. There shouldn't be a problem with large images.

I have tried. Still get the ERORR message. I give up for the now, need a 10 year old to show me Confused
Simon

Hmmm?

Is the image a .jpg, a .gif or a .png?

I think they're the only type were allowed on here. A .bmp would be too large in file size.

.jpg. All well over 2 M
jema

There is a 2mb limit. Much better to resize an image before uploading.

Yes, I've got a picture viewer that doesn't offer to resize so I have to use something else to do it.

What PC are you using and what viewer? We should be able to find something else for you to use that does have a re-size option.

so fix it! dear 'enry dear 'enry

I wrote the following a few years back to help people resize images for articles. It might be a bit out of date but it might help:

I'll base this around IrfanView as it is free and quite easy to use. It can be downloaded here: http://www.irfanview.com/

For an article it's often best to try and make all the pictures the same width, between 400 to 500 pixels is about right. It's also best to try and keep their size as small as possible to help with download speed but don't lose too much quality.

If you only want part of the image then click on the picture at the top left hand part you want and while holding down the mouse button go to the bottom right hand side. Let go of the mouse button and you'll see a rectangle. Now select the 'file' menu and either select the 'crop' option or the 'copy' option and paste into another image. (If you select the wrong bit then just click outside the rectange and then try again).

If the image is too big or too small select 'image' menu and select the 'resize/resample' option. Then in the 'Set new size' area change the width to something like 400 pixels and ensure the 'Preserve aspect ratio' check box is checked otherwise the picture will be squished (technically speaking).

If an image is out of focus or blurred then select the 'image' menu and select 'sharpen'. Sometimes this doesn't work that well but other times it greatly improves the picture. You can sharpen a picture several times but more than once or twice and you lose quality.

To reduce the file size Select the 'File' menu and the 'save as' option. Ensure the 'Save as type' is set to 'JPG – JPEF Files' and the 'Show options dialog' checkbox at the bottom of the window is checked on. Then you will see this a JPEG/GIF save options window and I tend to play around with the save quality until the picture will be about 30-40 k. About 80 is a good starting point. To see the file size save it and right click on the file on the desktop and select 'properties'. Remember that if you save over your original picture it will be lost and only the new one will be there.

If you have used either of the first two options (cropping part of the picture, or making it smaller) you might not need to reduce the file size. If the picture is essential to illustrate the article then that is more important than a fast download.

To brighten up an image if it is too dark to see all the details then select the 'image menu' and the 'enhance colours' option. The best option I've found is the gamma correction option. I tend to select something between 1.10 and 1.30 but see how the picture turns out.

Yep, a PC running windows. I've looked at what info I can find about the Photo Album and there doesn't seem to be anything you can use. One idea was to email them to yourself and it might resize them but that seems a little daft.

With the power tools Jema has suggested the link shows:

"Image Resizer

This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click."

The link to the file is: http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe

.. but how shall I fix it dear Liza, dear Liza? Laughing

Just to be clear, when you click 'attack file', the second option down in the little popup is 'reduce image to fit'. This can be really handy for reducing larger pics down to a more practical 640x480 ish for your post.

However, your file mustn't be larger than 2Mbs to begin with, or not even this will work. This limit prevents DS from being cluttered with huge, needlessly unwieldly files.

I have downloaded the programme, but cannot make it work. Will have to wait until the younger generation is around. Maybe need to have a differnt picture programme. Thoroughly fed up for now Mad
Barefoot Andrew

Email it to me if you wish (I'll PM you) and I'll do it for you, although this won't be until tomorrow.

It is also a nod in the direction that unless people have really fast connections, the bigger the files are then the longer and less reliable things get anyway. It really does make sense to resize locally.
