Hmmm.....I joined (well at least I tried to join) that club back in June........2008!!!.....and despite numerous emails to everyone and I mean everyone listed on their website......NO RESPONSE.

Oh no, I lie. I emailed the Chairman in August off '08 and he said they'd been a bit busy!?!?

They've still got my cheque somewhere......never been banked Rolling Eyes

Bizarre.
Pel

If you phone up kevin or keith or some name beginning with a K (i think), then he is really nice to talk to and helps out with any questions, he is the guy i phoned up when i joined this year.

Try the website now and contacts on there has been a reshuffle so now all organised. Hope this helps.

I can t make the talk but my brother will be there, should be very interesting.
Pel

Quite a re-shuffle for their website, and no telephone numbers that i can find, just the comment form/applet. They seem to need a few more on their committee, doesnt look so good when only 5 members are on the list most doing more than one thing.
Perhaps you should go on the committee chris or your brother. (or anyone else who breeds and is a member)

We are looking to help out where we can but not always enough hours in the day! Especially now we are performance recording the pigs.
Faithmead

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......what's 'Performance Recording' mean please Confused
NeathChris

Recoding the performance of the pigs, how they grow in weight (grams per day), food conversion ratio, backfat levels at loin and shoulders, how the sows peform number born alive/dead weaned etc. Basically accurately weighing pigs at stages and backfat scanning at stages and working out from there.

Alot of our customers for breeding stock like to know what type of pig they are getting, what they can do and what to expect from them. It is also good for us to see how we are improving the pigs with breeding in performance.

We are recording our Welsh and Large Whites and we now have Berkshires so will start recording them once they start farrowing and all are kept pedigree.
Pel

Do you have a weigh platform or an electronic weigh machine... as the lamb weighing ones with a (the word isnt manual, but that kind of thing) balance on top aren't really that accurate, especially if you don't have it on a level?

I'm guessing you do weight at birth or near enough, weight at weaning, and then how many born dead and alive... good way to see when yours sows start dropping, good efficient method if you use your data properly.

Do you have one of those laser type probes, so you can see backfat or some other type of ultrasound thing? (ok, sorry for the lack of technical words here).

Your not tempted to try out a LW x BK to see how that would do? even if its purely to look and analyse the data. (though you would need spare time for that)
NeathChris

We have electronice scales and the back fat scanner we have ordered is ultrasound.
