Piri piris lack of and pedigree registering.

I was having a think last night when reading the society's website about my mum's KKs, now neither are pedigree registered, and neither have piri piri's. The little gilt's dam had them and not sure if the sire did, and my mum's boar's sire had them (or at least i'm led to believe this) and I'm trying to remember if the dam had them or not.
Other than their lack of piri piri, they both (i think) fit breed standard, (ok they might not reach 30inch high, but i dont believe they were ever that big... maoris didnt have massive huts originally so a short legged pig makes sense), i'm not saying perfectly, but good enough to consider them good breeding pigs as well as pets.

So what happens if they have one or two "perfect" breed standard piglets with piri piris, as you cant registered them as pedigree as the neither of the parents are.
Surely there must be a lot of stock like this?

I know with other breeds if they dont have the best of something but everything else is top notch/within the standards you can register them as pedigrees, but KK seem to need the piri piris to be anywhere near considered pedigree, which would cut a lot of stock out of the register.

There maybe other breed societies, but the only one i know of where it lets an animal within a litter be registered even though the parents arent is the Britsih Rabbit council.. and it does kind of make sense to allow this.

Now i'm not saying allow anything to be pedigree registered I still think all the other points in the standard should be made... ok expect height on the KKs, but good underline, number of teats, good hams, strong back legs etc should be maintained.

There are lots of rules regarding what can and can't be registered in flock/herd books. I only know (with any certainty) about flock books, but these are governed b EU regs so I would guess that there is probably an equivalent set of rules governing pig herd books.

Basically if the both the parents of an animal are registered in a flock book then that animal must be able to be registered as pedigree EVEN if it doesn't conform to the breed description. If an animal does conform to the breed description but if one or both of its parents are not registered, then that animal might be able to be registered if the breed society have a grading up policy.

Might be totally different for pigs though.

I think i heard something similar for boer goats, dont know if they still do grading up. I suppose have to email the society.
