pl insuranceI am getting ready to do our local Farmers' Market, but I need Public Liability Insurance first.
I can join the Market Traders' Association and get it for £88
I don't know what is reasonable.
Any other suggestions?
I have heard that NFU Mutual is god if you already have your house insurance with them, you can tack it on to that, but I am loth to change just for that. (paperwork is not my favourite thing)
I wish this was all a bit simpler

I'll go and talk to them. I can deal with one person in person

Public liability insurance is often included in your home insurance policy. Worth a check for the limits before you spend any more money.

No mention of it, and it probably would only be regarding my property/belongings, not stock I sell.
Another thing to ask someone.
I need a secretary

not usually for trading though, unless you have a spectacularly helpful insurer.
I'm currently with NMTF and find them very no frills and no nonsense, I've also used Ian Wallace Craftsman Insurance in the past, which will also cover teaching and online sales if you specify this when you take out the policy, about the same cost as NMTF, very friendly people, I hate phones and even I found them fine to talk to.

I'm sure they would, its set up specifically for small makers/sellers/teachers, the deal seems to be to state what you want covered at the start just so its mentioned on the paperwork

we have had pl for over 20 years now (oh work) but this year by going to a broker i got insurance from them for sixty four pounds that gives us 2 million pounds cover etc. etc. a saving of two hundred pounds from our last insurance company (norwich union).
so if you live near a broker try them.
its a minefield with insurance so be careful

most shows ask for 5million though these days, I wouldnt be able to trade at any living history events or heritage sites with just 2million cover, so its worth checking what your end needs really require

no our pl is a different aspect altogether all i was trying to say was a broker has access to 100's of quotes saves all the visits or phone calls and they will often give a disscount in the hope you will got to them next year for your other insurance it works for us.

We found the NMTF the cheapest & all the other free add ons to being a member made it a no brainer. They also did offer the cheapest van insurance too.

Went to the NFU- compared like for like with the house- loads cheaper...so now I've got PL, stock covered, workshop and contents covered, personal belongings and cards covered, employee insurance in free...all for £3 a month more than I was paying before.
I got a quote on the car too- like for like, £80 cheaper
So I went to Motaquote who said £63 to leave, or if you stay we will reduce your bill to £3 more (p.a.) than the NFU quote
NFU don't use brokers and only charge 1.5 % extra for direct debits
So that is one less thing to sort
