Plasterboard recycle or compost ??

Well guys and gals I have a fair few bits of offcut plasterboard and i was wondering if it can be composted or recycled. ??

There's not a lot you can do with it - most recycling centres are reluctant to take plasterboard, and you end up having to pay to have it skipped as landfill (at around £80 a tonne in these parts).
It would compost if you could find a way to shred and pulverise it enough so that the gypsum core turned to dust, but otherwise you just end up with horrible soggy bits of plasterboard.
It's one of those materials which has revolutionised the building industry but which is a nightmare to get rid of.
