PondsDid I imagine that there was an article on here about making a pond. I have a hole, some liner, sand and a vulnerable OH who has been allowed to more or less peacefully listen to his football club losing online . I just wanted to check we are on teh right tracks for completing it.

I don't think there is an article, but if you have any questions there's plenty of people who've made them.

Thank you. I wuill go and check there.
But it is basically remove any weeds and dead mice from the bottom of the hole. Because we dug it last year and because the cats use it as an amphitheatre and drop live mice in it at times Add a layer of sand to give extra protection should we have missed any sharp stones then add the liner with plenty of overlap and fill? Mind you - don't think the liner will be necessary at the moment - it's very very wet here.

I wish we could help but we used a JCB and two natural springs and most importantly an overflow
This one was a splash pool for the geese - sand lined, extra large liner ( because it always takes more)and stone and beam surround. Just add water!
This is the well springs one for the dogs to drink.
We have been lining the egdes with foraged water lilies and the edge areas have been planted with 4 varieties of willows

Lovely. My Mum has a natural spring pond - it's full of wild iris. They would look lovely in your pond.
Mine is a token gesture as there isn't much room. It was our favourite spot in our old garden. Full of newts and things.

Yep, I've also used special fibre matting under the pond liner here as we have plenty of very sharp stones. Make sure at least one end is shallow and there's something for animals to get out of the pond if they wish. Don't trim the liner until the ponds full and, if you can, a scoop of water & mud from a nearby pond will help your pond establish.

I have also heard that the pond will naturally fill with the likes of local livestock - eels, fish, wild duck etc

Yep - it's stepped, with a deep end that shouldn't get chance to freeze and a shallow end that becomes bog garden and has never dried out in the three years we have lived here.

Old carpet is good if you've got any lying around.

Not an article, but there was this thread - with a link off-site.
