Poor little thingTook the nutter mutt out for a walk this morning. There was a baby deer on our drive. Nutter barked and frightened the poor thing. It darted down the drive and got stuck in our iron gate  The Prof had to try and gently unwedge him. The poor deer was so frightened, I swear he was crying. Eventually got him out and he ran off into the woods. I hope he found his mum.
Don't think I'm cut out for this country living lark somehow.

Sounds like you did the right thing to me. I'm sure Mum wasn't too far away.

Thinking the screaming coming from the woods was one of our goats, Fabrice belted down fast to find a young deer in shreds after being injured, probably by a badger.
His front leg was broken, back legs had been ripped to the tendons and his back thigh was badly ripped. He carried the deer back to the house to shoot it. 
It showed no fear and started whimpering and I gave it a cuddle and asked if we could try to save it.
This is three weeks later:

A few months later:
and ready to go out into his wood:
He eventually jumped the fence and went off back into the wild.
He is still alive, although we rarely see him now.
