Poorly 'puterHello everyone!
Just to say my computer has sadly died  and it'll be three weeks before it'll be ready. In the local library posting this but computers are a bit of a rarity this far in to wild Wales so not likely to be doing it too often  !
I'll miss you all til then...

Actually its the connecting to the internet bit thats sick not the whole puter. Wanadoo have accidently disconnected my line as ADSL so can't connect and so some reason dial up modems implode quite quickly when used up here. Used to get through them at a rate of knots before broadband arrived. Wanadoo have apologised and have agreed to not charge me for a couple of months but it'll be three weeks before they can reinstate the line!!!!! If it wasn't so much hassle changing email addresses and the like I'd swap to a new isp. Really have to go now as library lady looking fierce and kids are queuing....

Doubt that changing ISP would help, since all the exchange (phone line) ADSL equipment (AFAIK) is BT, whichever ISP you actually deal with...
Modems - you should get a "surge suppressor" to plug in to your phone socket. If this is 'upstream' of everything, it can protect everything you have connected to the line. Cordless phones also seem to be particularly vulnerable to "voltage spikes" coming down the line.
Be nice to the librarians! (They might be nice to you!)
