pre paid postage,any problems?

ive been printing out my postage online from royal mail, save a lot of time and effort, only problem is that the post offices around here are realy not polite about taking them, apparently they dont get any pay for handling them.I today had to talk to the postmaster at Mere post office about it,i informed him that the post office doesnt get paid but then theres a number of things that are of little proffit in a post office and that the staff attitude maywell put me off visiting his P.O and would then be losing out on the impulse buys like sweets for the kids and magazines etc,i dont think he gives a damn realy!

anyone else had problems like this? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I used to, it does depend on the post office though. Some are OK with it.

The big one here in Cheltenham doesn't care.

Yep.

The local tosser who runs our village post office/shop refused point blank to take three parcels from me last year. He said it was thier policy. As this was late on a Friday afternoon and I was due to catch a plane to Ireland, I had no time to take them anywhere else. Eventually the pratt did take them, but it took a lot of arguing.

When I got back from ireland, I contacted the post office head office and they told me that he had no right to refuse to take these parcels, and they would be having words with him. I went in a week or so later with two more and asked if they were taking them now, he replied in a very curt manner that he was!.

I now print off all my postage on line and take it round to him and always ask for proof of posting - costs me nothing but winds him up beautifully!

A bit like expecting a car salesman to do all the work involved in selling you a car whilst making it very clear that you will be actually buying the car from a chap down the road.

And about a hundred other analogies Rolling Eyes

Our local PO one was a bit sniffy once as they hadn't seen a pre-paid label before but I put that down to lack of product awareness.

Do they or does the Post Office subcontract out the post offices? I agree you should obviously get the service you pay for but if small post offices don't get paid for these services and more people use them they'll gradually close so people will have to travel further to post parcels.

I used to use SmartStamp all the time, in the end I stopped because I wanted to support the local post office. It takes a bit longer but then they are very pleasant and helpful, always good service with a smile, so I don't mind.

The Post Office and Royal Mail are separate units. The postmaster/mistress works for the Post Office, not for Royal Mail. If the transaction doesn't go through his Horizon system he doesn't get paid for it - and it doesn't show up when the powers that be have a look at how much the office is used, when they want to shut a few down.

Nice attitude Rolling Eyes

I never knew this one. We put through a lot using the prepaid system and did not notice an attitude, I didn't know it was an issue for the post office Sad

You haven't got a person who runs your post office like the one we have. The previous people were lovely, helpful and friendly. This guy and his 'son' are deliberately obstructive. The only reason most people in the village use them is because they are convenient. I am happy to say that they have had not one penny of my money for the past 18 months and it will be a dark day before they do get one.I would rather drive 5 miles to another shop for a bottle of milk than patronise them.

our local post master was done for embezzling money form the post office...and the temporary post master who took over was ALSO done for the very same thing!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
