Printing not working

Dunno what's happening this week on thing after t'other. Anyway I'm currently pursuing a policy of pensioning off old gax machines once we run out of toner, got rid of my NEC Nefax 415 and Panasonic UF490, set up a Samsung SF6800 yesterday and nothing but grief:

Firstly avast reckons the setup programme is creating a trojan (latest driver d.loaded from Samsung), then the setup programme just sort of hangs, does bugger all for ages, I managed to get it loaded eventually . The first job woke up the printer from sleep mode but didn't actually print, subsequent jobs don't seem to have made any impression on the printer at all, for some reason this has totally screwed up printing on my PC, can't print to any of the 4 printers I've got installed.

Have restarted spooler and rebooted but still can't blinking print Evil or Very Mad

This is on Win2K pro.

Any ideas anyone or should I just burn all my computer equipment and live in a cave?

I take it you're trying the test prints?
Are the printers connected to your machine, or through a network?
tahir

Network, if I connect to the network via Metaframe I can print to em, locally I can't.
Jonnyboy

can you ping the printer?
Northern_Lad

That's just bonkers.

If you can print through Metaframe why do you want to connect loaclly?

Sounds to me as though your security software doesn't like what the driver is doing (or what the installer wanted to do).
I'd delete any stuck jobs. Disconnect from your network. Restart without the security stuff. De-install then re-install the driver (if you trust Samsung). Then restart the security stuff, *then* reconnect to the network and try again...

Suggest trying a Mac before becoming a troglodyte...

If I had half the crap I have on my PC locally on the MF server it'd have a heart attack. I use Corel Draw locally for a start.

I'm very seriously tempted by Ubuntu and I shall have some spare PCs knocking around at work soon.

There aren't any, as far as the spooler's concerned all jobs are cleared Confused

Tahir's council won't let him build his cave though.

Hmm, managed to miss this thread yesterday. How is printing land, Tahir?

Still the same, avast found the same trojan in several locations, I asked to delete, will reboot in a while see if that's cleared it.
tahir

Never cleared it, did a boot time scan with Avast, cleared everything, removed and reinstalled all the printers and they worked. Still the same issue with the Samsung, spoke to Samsung tech support today they said you can't print to an SF6800, apparently the parallel port is only there for firmware upgrades Confused Rolling Eyes

That's handy.
