Pub/hotel for sale in orkney.I'm going to mention this on all the forums i visit. I'm sticking my two penn'orth in because the owners seem to be completely unaware of the appeal of this sort of property/small business to those of us with a downshifting/sizer-ish bent

It's the only pub/hotel on the island (one of the north isles, the nicest, but then I'm biased ) and is one of the first buildings you see as you step off the ferry.

You go to the links 'around Stronsay' and it shows a picture titled "disused mill"
Looks beautiful around you-I like your Heathrow equivalent

Brings to mind a great song/peom by Hamish Blair.
Mind you, I've always fancied trying out Orkney Folk Festival.
Anyhow, try this - it was written when stationed there during the war as I recall;
The Bloody Orkneys
This bloody town's a bloody cuss
No bloody trains, no bloody bus,
And no one cares for bloody us
In bloody Orkney.
The bloody roads are bloody bad,
The bloody folks are bloody mad,
They'd make the brightest bloody sad,
In bloody Orkney.
All bloody clouds, and bloody rains,
No bloody kerbs, no bloody drains,
The Council's got no bloody brains,
In bloody Orkney.
Everything's so bloody dear,
A bloody bob, for bloody beer,
And is it good? - no bloody fear,
In bloody Orkney.
The bloody 'flicks' are bloody old,
The bloody seats are bloody cold,
You can't get in for bloody gold
In bloody Orkney.
The bloody dances make you smile,
The bloody band is bloody vile,
It only cramps your bloody style,
In bloody Orkney.
No bloody sport, no bloody games,
No bloody fun, the bloody dames
Won't even give their bloody names
In bloody Orkney.
Best bloody place is bloody bed,
With bloody ice on bloody head,
You might as well be bloody dead,
In bloody Orkney
-- Hamish Blair

looks like a good deal for the right folk ,it seems well presented and has a monopoly ,islands usually have folk who need employment or beer and food and company
if i had similar ambitions i would want to see the books re costs and turnover but run well it looks an earner

Do you know why, if they have spent £300K on the place this decade, is the asking price even lower than that ?
You'd have to like the regulars.

Bloody hell - looking at the pictures, if they really have spent £300,000, it's a shame they got Stevie Wonder to do the make-over.
I'd have to budget another £100K to get the place half decent again.

It's possible that the renovations might have been grant assisted?
Also, if they were done 10 years ago and it is a profitable business, they have "paid for themselves" by now.
It can be difficult to sell properties like this, there is a limited market for them, and with the generally depressed property market... just guessing.
Do you know how long it has been up for sale Alice?
A bit too near sea level for my liking!

Some months I believe. But I've only seen the ad today and I'm practically glued to the internet - IMO it's not being 'marketed' very well/widely

Is it my interpretation or is there no owners' accomodation?
For the price - if it included somewhere to live it's great - if it doesn't then maybe that's why it isn't selling - need to be local or buy a house as well?
I like it a lot - even the left in the 70s feel of the bar

looking at the website I would imagine an ensuite room, and the 2 attic rooms comprised the owners accommodation.
More than we had in our first hotel!

Maybe you should consider an Orkney band at the Shetland Folk Festival?!

What am I missing? the rooms are fairly neutral, bedding aside. The pub decor is typical pub.
