Pulse & GlidePulse & Glide Driving
I already go into neutral for long down hills, maybe I'll give this a shot too...

Yeh but the results are ESTIMATED for a normal type car using the on board computer read out not a calibrated device. Having seen some of the claims of mpg from that type of device in other cars I am doubtful of those numbers.
Why they dint use the total trip mpg using pulse & glide instead of averaging the two different cycle.

Hey it's not my idea!
If I try it, I'll try and do a trip average. And if I do it, It'll be when alone on the road....
I'm trying to get the most out of my '94 Mazda which already gets about 37 MPG by looking at these tips. Without the added extra effort and dork factor of the modifications these guys do to their vehicles (http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/5th-generation-civic-hatchback-improving-aerodynamics-312.html)

I didn't mean you I meant 'one'
Can't be a particularly safe way of driving can it?

Isn't it illegal to cruise in neutral here in the UK?
My dad used to do it all the time when I was a kid.

Is gliding or coasting legal in the UK? My recollection is that the car msut always be under power except when changing gear when on the move.

I would take that to mean with engine running & poss in gear but not actualy driving the vehicle (IE clutch pressed). Or auto's would be illegal too.
however riding the clutch would soon cause damage that would cost more than the savings made.

Surely If you adopt the full pulse and glide as per the article when you turn off the engine you lose most of your braking facility and your power steering. Maybe this should be called crash and stop

The modern hybred cars do that automaticaly for you but like you say its not a good idea on a standard car which is why the article actualy says that was not the way to do it.

He just says its not practical not downright dangerous. I lost my servo vacuum due to a cracked pipe whilst towing in North Wales and its suprising the sudden change in your car handling.
