putting keys back on a keyboard

I managed to pop the shift key off my keyboard when removing a furball that had myseriously got under there (cat slept on the keyboard I think), and whilst I can see what needs doing to put the key back, I'm not quite getting it right and wondered if there was a cunning trick to it. This one has two little wires that you have to slide into two loops- that bit is easy, but its also has a little folding bit on the other edge of the key that you have to engage with a hook on the machine at the same time. Normally don't have any problem with manual dexterity challenges, but this one is fooling me.

Its usable without the key, but seems silly that its being so awkward to put back

I once took the entire keyboard off for a clean & put it all back OK, or so I thought, until a few weeks later I couldn't work out why the 'Print Screen/Sys Rq' key didn't work- turned out it was mixed up with the 'Pause/Break'. Embarassed

I don't have a shift key like that, so unfortunately I'm not much use to you Sad

I've never seen one like that - most keyboards I've seen have a small cylindrical clip (on the key) that inserts into a slot (on the board). Quite easy to prize out, quite easy to click back in too. Maybe yours is just a case of applying slightly more persuasive force than seems appropriate for a delicate thingie?

I concur. I had a key come away on the laptop recently and whiole they're a bit more fiddley than a normal keyboard it required quite a bit of force to click it back in place.

Howard once had to take a whole keyboard apart. The trick is to take a digital photo before dismantling it, then referring to it as you put the keys back.
