Question inspired by Shrek!Do all female birds lay eggs even if they aren't fertilised like chickens do?

Not sure, but it's like plants that produce barren seeds. Chestnuts and pine nuts are prime examples, sometimes 90% duds

Dunno, but when I was a kid I watched a blackbird through the nesting season, there were 3 eggs,I saw the chicks, and eventually the nest was left, and there was an egg left behind, and it was unfertilized
