Quick quick slow

Is the site wobbly or is it my end?
JB

Normal performance here. The occasional slow spot but that's par for the course.

Edit - having posted that it seems to have slowed down. I reckon it's an evil conspiracy to make me do some work Sad

Mine's dancing too - it's only experience that hasn't led to me double posting a couple of times.

Takes ages to post. Shocked

Seems fine again now. Is it just posting?

Mainly seems to be posting that's affected.

The issue is I think table locking being used in the backup process and that will effect writing rather than reading.
What makes little sense is that the locks should you would think just effect what ever tables are being backed up at a particular second, but instead seem to effect all cached tables Crying or Very sad
I have not been getting very far looking into this Sad
For the technical, I currently use mysqldump, there are alternatives, but what is used currently does get used quite frequently to restore databases and it WORKS. The bugbear of a lot of backup systems is that when it comes to the crunch people find issues with restoring stuff.

From tomorrow the backup time will be 2.5 hours earlier, so it will start a little before 5am, this should fit in better with our busy times.

Oh and I'm also changing things to try and make the backup less intense, which should aid post times. Frankly I'm posting partially just to see this Very Happy
