Quill pensI found a lovely big white wing feather in the duckery this morning.
Can I make it into a pen? If so how?
Just for fun, really.

dunno about a pen but for a genuine quill would you not just snip the end into a sharp tip and dip it in ink repeatedly?

You also need to split the end logditudinaly to allow the in to flow, and, I'm told, cut its total length to about 10/12" other wise it will be too unweildy to use practically.

Doesn't Sally know how to do this?

I've made pens with feathers we found, it's lots of fun but I need more practice and to work out how to make the tip harder. I think that involves hot sand.....
Loads of links if you google "cut your own quill" I used this one.

That link of Bebo's is good: seems really comprehensive. I'll have a one day soon... First I have to find a tin.

I do
The only feather really suitable without having to harden the end is a goose feather. When you cut it, it needs to have a slight curve and then split it length ways about half a centermeter.
