Rabbit fence

How deep in the ground & how high?

I was going to get some 4ft galvanised wire and sink 1 ft in and leave 3ft out, will that do?

Doesn't need to be more than 2 ft high but you want to burry the wire in a L shape with the bottom facing out.
When the rabbit burrows it will hit the wire & stop.
Mind going on the quality of the last roll of wire I bought I wouldn't give it 6 months in the ground before it falls to bits. Everything seems to be cheap shoddy chinese imports these days even when you buy them from a reputable dealer.

From what I read it needs to be either 6 inches deep or folded over on the ground to 6 inches from the fence line (apparently bunnies aren't bright enough to do anything other than dig immediately next to an obstruction.
Bluedog

A rabbit can dig a meter deep without any trouble so putting the netting straight in the ground is pointless, it needs a lip, or as already describes an "L"
The whole point behind rabbit netting is as a deterrent, so the "L" needs to be facing the side of "attack" meaning that the lip should face the side the rabbits are coming from. The way it works (and I am not trying to patronise its just that as a contractor people always ask me why the rabbits are in their fields when they have dropped netting in the trench straight) is that the rabbit comes up to an obstacle and its natural instinct is to dig straight down, they are inherently lazy and will always go for the easy option, so digging straight down usually works so why change the habit? When they do dig down they hit the netting and are discouraged, they will often do this all the way along the fence and will invariably chose to look for easier food rather than attempt to hurt its feet.

I will say however that no amount netting will be effective without a decent pest control regime, because if there are loads of rabbits they will be hungry and a hungry animal will do almost anything to get food.
In terms of depth, the rule of thumb for a contractor is 18 inches, 9 inches down, 9 inches out........ this has to be increased however in sandy soil, for obvious reasons.

Of course you could just get a contractor in........................
