a friend did something similar but the stairs were made out of pull out wooden boxes for things that weren't quite as tidy as books...

Am I missing a little detail here?
For £9,200 we will dig a hole in your floor?

Library staircase just made me think "cheaper to get rid of the books"! Closely followed by "they'd be a b*gger to keep clean." And the spiral cellar set off my pot-hole-phobia heebie-jeebies .

ignore the specifics of that brand, it was the idea of a neat little hidey hole full of wine under the living room rug that tickled me

I think the bookcase idea looks good but would be very dirty but the drawers in the risers is a fabulous idea! I'd really like to try that.

Rather nifty I agree, I would rather like a cellar here, though I rather imagine the obvious place to start digging would be straight down to the sewer pipe

OH thinks the spiral cellar is stunning, and i love the stairbooks, but clean would be a pain.

We keep books, shoes and all sort of sundry items on the stairs. Didn't need to go to the expense of making or buying bookshelves. Natural shelves are stairs. I have no idea what's at the end of them though.

I'd be a little concerned about how we'd ever make the base of the house water proof ever again.

Defintitely a sod to clean - I'm going to do the drawer thing and shelves up the sides, when we sell here, though - that's a great idea. I know someone with one of those cellar things. We don't keep enough wine to have one - I wonder if could be adapted (for say, fibre related supplies, perchance?)

Is the bottom of your house waterproof? There's just a gap and then earth under our floorboards.

Sally the bookcase just wouldn't work because look, you have to be able to colour co-ordinate your books as well.

If you can hire Levitate Architects to make your staircase, you probably don't clean your own apartment.

I have wanted bookcase or drawer stairs for years and years now...
Having to settle for the entire walls of the staircase being bookshelves instead because apparently the stairs are the one place DP is going to insist on there being carpet
But yay - my books will get to come out of boxes soon

I remember seeing a site with a staircase where each step top lifted up so you could store stuff inside, which I thought was a great idea
