Rayburn & RadiatorsWe have a wood solid fuel rayburn that produces all our hot water. I want to run 3 or 4 radiators from it as well if possible. Is this a relatively straight forward job?
I have also discovered that you can use plastic pipe for central heating systems (excluding the initial cylinder connections). Has anyone had any experience of this?
Thanks

Unless the range has the larger boiler it wont cope with doing both (unless you run it flat out all the time). Does your water tank boil or the heat sink rad get so hot the paint softens? If not I doubt it has the larger boiler. Trying to take to much heat out will cool the range & increase the corrosion in the fire box / boiler.
Oh & dont use plastic on a solid fuel system. The plastic pipes are not rated to the heat that can be made by a solid fuel stove.

hi our solid fuel rayburn supplies heat to 9 radiators, runs the hot water and we cook on it. the rayburn help line would be a good start with any questions.

RayburbThe hot water tank does boil and at present there is not heat sink rad. It is on constantly and the hot water is way too hot most of the time

Sounds like you have spare heat then. Should be a semi simple task for a plumber to sort out. You could even fit a switch / valve so you can switch between water or heat so you can prioritise or have it on both.
Our old one used to boil the tank when used with solid fuels, we switched to wood & also change the heat sink rad for a slightly bigger one (about 40%) & it stopped but not sure which change had the most effect as they were at the same time.

My rayburn does hot water and 3 rads burning wood, there a pipe stat on the tee valve return so when the water gets up to whatever the cantral heating pump switches on although the upstairs rads get warm without the pump if the rad stats aren't turned right down. That's probably cos the bathroom heatsink is downstairs.
The plumber did explain it to me but my brain had got to overload by then with all the new stuff happening.
There's diagrams on the rayburn website somewhere under technical I think.

Would advise against plastic pipe - neighbour to me (so 4 or 5 miles from you) built 6 years ago with plastic pipes, had to have the lot swapped for copper last year 'cos of the mouse damage!!!! More sprinkler system than central heating, IYSWIM?

Plastic PipesThanks for that. Plastic pipe is just so much easier to fit. But perhaps i'll just have to learn how to use copper.
Haven't seen you wave from the bus yet

Alot will depend on of you are trying to cook on your rayburn as well. You might find that it won't get hot enough to bake when the radiators are on so you might need to close them off when you need cooking heat.

mine runs the radiators, water and cooker to a bake to roast heat its a heatranger 355m (i think) we never wear more than short sleeves whilst the heating is on.
