Re-introducing myself!

Hi All, not sure how many will remember me but i used to visit this forum quite regularly for a while. I was developing our little smallholding and having great fun with it. Unfortunately, with the ever increasing cost of living OH and i were forced to make the difficult decision to sell up. Whilst we were *just* managing to keep our heads above water the stress and worry of meeting our outgoings each week was putting a real strain on our relationship and we felt that sadly we had to do the sensible thing.

We made the decision quite suddleny and acted on it quickly and were lucky enough to sell within a couple of weeks. We are now living in a victorian terraced house in a town about 20 miles away. We still rent the land in the old village as we have kept our ponies there for now. We have a larger house with less mortgage, no other debts and less outgoings. A difficult decision but definitely the right one.

I have also accepted a place on a primary pgce course starting in september. In the meantime i am volunteering at a local school one day a week and since i have been there i have set up a gardening club and am about to start an egg hatching project with them.

I am slowly starting to realise that whilst our lives are very different now to what they were 6 months ago it doesnt mean we have to give up everything. The time has come to rediscover our old way of life and what it means to be a 'downsizer' in the midle of a town. Our garden is quite small but i think we have room for 2 or 3 chucks, i might do a small hatch after the school and we will need to be creative about how we grow our fruit and veg. We still have the fruit trees in the old fields. There's plenty more we can do and embrace. Time to dig out the sewing machine and knitting needles too i think!

Its been a confusing and difficult time lately but i think the fog is finally lifting and the future is looking bright again and there are lots of exciting possibilities here and even when we are both working full time.

I look forward to learning from and with you all again as we start this new journey.

I do feel al name change is required now though too....hmmm......

Welcome back ! We can all be Downsizers wherever we are. Green Rosie

And please let us know if you change your name - too many people do it and it's weeks before I realise who they used to be Embarassed Laughing mochyn

We made a similar decision and got rid of our pigs a month ago. Also reducing the poultry numbers, but I'll have to wait for the old chap to kick the bucket before I move! Laughing Tough, but it was the right thing to do.

Welcome back!

Sounds like you downsized in a good way.

This question of Should I stay or Should I go Now...song from my past, has to be regularily visited as trying to balance everything out is simply too difficult on occassions..and picturing a New Begining doesnt always happen..frying pan to fire...I never cease to be amazed at how just when its time to let go ,Something Amazing happens to make the decision to stay..."Your Not Finnished Yet"..so here I happily am...
So I admire you for making a new leap of faith in the change of direction of your lives ,and getting out there and sharing the knowledge you gained from your living the Good Life with others...and making an even Better Life. Very Happy

So good to hear a positive outcome. We came close to making the same decision but luckily work picked up. If you want to take up spinning, I've always got good quality Shetland fleeces I'd be happy to send up to you. Just send a message. toggle

I'm just outside Redruth. Black or grey available if you have a preference. Can send some small samples in the post so you can see if they are what you want. Mrs Mouse
