Replacement birds - sooner or laterMy Light Sussex died suddenly sometime between shutting up on Friday night and me finding her stiff but still warm with the contents of her crop filling her beak on Saturday. Not sure what happened, but the others seem fine. (Though the little Araucana was missing her big feather pillow come bedtime yesterday).
I was planning on getting a couple more birds next Spring anyway, but I'm now wondering if I should replace her straight away, plus an extra bird.
What's the best option?

Well, birds are cheaper at this time of year, cos you have to feed them all tjrough the winter for fewer eggs, and in the spring, everybody and their granny wants birds.
As far as replacing now, are you thinking one bird or all? For just one bird it will be a bit traumatic. always try to introduce like numbers (2 new to 2 existing).
The choice, ultimately is yours.....

Got some Light Sussex hens here about 16 weeks old. Not laying yet and I would imagine that they won't start until spring now. If you want a couple I've been selling them for 14 quid each.

Better add I've only had them a month so I'm going to be talking to the supplier this week.
Not looking to replace the lot - just another to take the place of Dusty, plus possibly a RIR.
