Resigned from modding teamAs of the day before yesterday. I'd rather hoped that someone else would have informed the forum, but as it hasn't happened, here goes.
I took the decision following a post by another mod which, in my view, so far overstepped our established principles (and in my view common courtesy) for religious tolerance that I wasn't any longer willing to be associated with moderation policy here. I'm in no way, not even a little bit religious, and I don't even understand what people mean when they say that they're 'spiritual' people, but I do require that all such viewpoints are treated with similar respect.
In my view we didn't take that seriously enough, so I either had to abide by a line that contravened my own ethics, or get out. So, I got out.
That doesn't mean that I don't entirely support the key goals of Downsizer, or that I'll not be involved. It simply means I've chosen not to be part of the moderating team because my ethics are far more important to me than being a moderator here. I've got to be able to look the guy in the mirror square in the eye.
Anyway, this isn't intended to start a debate or discussion on moderation policy, but I felt I owed it to members here to announce this, partly put an end to the 'is it true?' messages I've been getting, and to explain why I'm still totally behind Downsizer. And as this isn't intended to be a discussion, Mods, could you do me a favour and lock this?
