Rhubarb

I have two heads of rhubarb to plant, thanks to a kindly neighbour. Where's the best position to plant them?
Green Rosie

They don't mind a bit of shade but don't like being waterlogged. They do like lots of manure.

next to the compost heaps they will get any leachate

full sun is good (except when under the inverted bathtub to give first growth pale sweet stems)

as much manure as poss in the holes is a good start ,dont pick too hard in the first year (about half the stems) and cover with more manure once the leaves die back in autumn

be ruthless at removing flower stalks

be ruthless at removing flower stalks

Whyzatten?
dpack

flowering produces lots of seed but takes nutrients and energy that would be stored in the crown to give a good crop the next year

replanting stresses the plant and some "decide" to set seed rather than settle in

the flower stalks are too tough to eat (i found that in a 5 kilo batch of frozen chopped ones Embarassed ).
