You'll be FINE!
sean

You're not supposed to cook the bees. Shocked I knew I shouldn't have left her alone to do this.
Cathryn

Who? What did I miss? Smile
Cathryn

Bees, yes I wondered. Go on shift the thread. Smile
Cathryn

She's just all excited Very Happy
sean

The bees. Not sure why the thread's in recipes etc though.
Cathryn

She's excited and anticipating!
sally_in_wales

Penny Outskirts

Oooooh excting, I'm very jealous!
jamanda

OK I put it in the wrong section. Sorry!

But the bees are safely delivered to their new home. They did sound just a tad disgruntled when I opened their front door so I left them to it.

Dealing with Sean has been good practice, then? Wink Rolling Eyes
Fee

How exciting!
Tavascarow

Cool!
Welcome to the fascinating world of beekeeping.
Very Happy
jamanda

I'm off to see how they got on last night and take the duck tape off their air vents now. I just opened the front door and scarpered last night.
jamanda

Bees are now hived (by me all on my own, with no help from anyone Very Happy ) in their new hive. Gosh there was a lot of bees in that little nuc box!
sally_in_wales

well done you, exciting arent they Smile
cassy

Phew, well done!

Traumatic moment isn't it Very Happy . I was worried that the queen had somehow miraculously got away when I wasn't looking, despite sitting the nuc on top of the brood box for the transfer Very Happy .

Well, I wont know until I get a chance to go through it properly. It wasn't warm enough to be hanging around looking for her, but I did want to get some food on them. So I went for it. They looked quite healthy, and there were plenty of them.

Next job is to turn the brood box round so the frames are across the hive "the warm way". But I was told to keep them oriented the same way as the nuc box to start with.
frewen

This all sounds very complicated! good luck Jamanda Smile
sean

She'll be fine, I'm a constant source of advice and encouragement.
snowball

Well done Jamanda, she says pointedly ignoring Sean. Smile
You must be very excited.
sean

I don't think she'll answer, she seems to be choking for some reason.
jamanda

Thank you Snowball and Frewen for your supportive comments.

It's probably not complicated when you've done it a long time, but it's quite hair raising doing it for the first time.
Penny Outskirts

You're very brave and I'm massively impressed notworthy

Come and visit, then you can see mine and see what you think.

This book is quite a good introduction. Not as heavy as some of the others, but concise and containing most of what it seems you need to know as a beginner.

Shocked yeah that would be good. Smile
Penny Outskirts

Right then Cathryn, you get to me and I'll take us the rest of the way Very Happy
Tavascarow

Well done.
Why do you want to turn them the warm way?
I have never bothered & figure if that was the best way manufacturers would put entrances in the side of nuc boxes not the end.
Definately get some feed in them, not much nectar at the mo till the ivy blossoms especially with the wet weather.
Smile
The book that got me through the early stages.

link to book
Out of date now (Pre varroa) but still a good reference.
jamanda

Because the chaps up at the apiary said it was better. Mainly because it's easier to stand behind the hive and lift the frames out if they are that way I think.
