Rocky Horror - Oh Dammit Janet!Surely there must be plenty of Rocky Horror fans lurking - Have you seen the latest that Sky and MTV are going to remake it
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7558091.stm
Although it now appears Richard O'Brien doesn't have anything to do with it

MTV getting its hands on RH - Not going to be a good thing!

It seems supremely pointless to me. What next, a remake of This is Spinal Tap?

Proberbly won't be as good as the original anyway. Remakes seldom are.
See it loads of times, on screen, and 5 I think, dressed up with props at stage shows.

Does seem completely pointless - although if Richard O'Brien WAS going to be involved, that would be a good thing, because he got no royalties from the original or the stage show, if I remember rightly?

I love the RH, go and see it every time it comes to the theatre. Not sure what I think about a remake though

It is very hard to see it being good.
The Charlie and the Chocolate factory remake comes to mind

I've seen it a good few times both on stage and the film. I suppose a new remake will find a new, younger audience and therefore lots of lolly for someone.

It's iconic, a remake may be good for a new audience, but it won't be the same thing.

Yup. If it's successful they might do a sequel

True, but is that necessarily a problem? After all, the original will still exist.

Saw RH in Bath some 10 years ago - Jason Donovan, with Nicholas Parsons as the Narrator.

I really don't see the point in remaking it. The original is perfectly good and I doubt it could be improved.
I guess it's because they've run out of ideas for original films, actually I think that happened a while a go.

They (Hollywood) have also 'remade' Brideshead Revisited (the film is out here in September- can't judge until I've seen it but will be difficult to relate to it, as of course Aloysius has been written out. A travesty).
In a way I can see the cynical point (get it over to younger audiences with iconic actors/actresses and make loads of money, woo-hoo!) but trying to remake The Rocky Horror Picture Show is like doing Stingray with real actors- doomed.
You need that wooden amateurism to enjoy it in all its glory.
It will not work, and I am glad that Richard O'Brien has obviously gone as far as he is contractually allowed to in dissing the idea.
Mark my words.
It's the thin end of the wedge.
It's the tip of the iceberg.
It's.....erm..... just a jump to the left.......

I'm putting a very timid arm in the air and admitting I've not seen it or really know anything about it.

Will it be as bad as the original, I keep asking myself.

Nor me. I have seen my son's GCSE drama version. That was fun.

I've seen it in costumes ranging from the 'full Frank' to the 'lips' 247 times in all. I even wrote a few articles for the Denton Dossier. I can't see how the original can be improved on but I'll wait till I've seen it before being too disparaging.
ah the misspent days of my youth...
