Sarcoscypha cocieaThere seem to be hundreds of these about at the moment. Rogers Mushrooms describes them as Edible. Are they worth gathering ? Any recipes ?

Gosh, but thats a blast from the past. Had to look it up; scarlet elf cap! Haven't seen one of those in years, used to see plenty up in Lancashire though.
They're okay, not totally dissimilar to orange peel fungus, not anything to write home about on their own but they add a sort of musty-mushroomy quality to mixtures of wild shrooms (so, say, if you have some dried agaricus and some boletus in the cupboard, they'll mix in quite well with that).
No specific recipes, as it isn't something I'd tend to use on its own.

They are extremely common where I live in Dorset. I do know one person who swears by them but I have found them tasteless and they have a surprisingly tough outer skin. Far too pretty to pick anyway!

Yeah, they're quite common out West. Not so many of them into the middle of the country, and out East they're infrequent (and I've never seen one anywhere near Cambridge).
