Save MeadowbankChris Hoy (you know, the guy who just secured olympic legend status with an incredible three gold medals, to add to the one he already had) cut his teeth on the old commonwealth games velodrome, Meadowbank, in Edinburgh. And, naturally, the council there have been planning to rip it down for ages. Yes, its an old fashioned, even quaint venue, and yes, there'll be a shiny new one (named after Hoy, we learn today) in Glasgow soon enough, but its a crying shame to lose this one.You need regional sports facilities, as well as excellent national ones, to give something for kids who want to take these sports up to aspire to and somewhere to learn their sports.
