second hand reusable nappies?

I know there are a number of you out there who have recently taken delivery of a new sprog.

Are any of you using reusable nappies? are any of you using a 'nappy swap' scheme or other second hand nappy arrangement and if so how did you find where you could get them?

I passed mine to my neighbours so that's not much help. Ebay banned their sale Rolling Eyes but a lot of local councils do decent schemes that could be explored Smile
2steps

I bought mine on ebay or through a parenting forum I use
Green Rosie

WEN do a nappy exchange service - click here

I sold mine through them a year or so ago and I know from an email I received very recently that the scheme is still up and running.

We just saved ours for round two....

They turn up from time to time on our local freecycle (both wanted and offered).

I got a lot of ours from The Used Nappy Company.

eBay tend to cancel auctions for second hand nappies because they are classed as underwear and therefore, a 'fetish item'.

You could also try putting a little 'want' ad up at his nursery?

Be careful about buying second hand wraps - it's difficult to tell how waterproof they still are - I've been stung a couple of times by ones that look in great condition but have been tumbled dried and are therefore in poor nick. I'd recommend Wee Notions for new wraps - you don't need that many and theirs are great.

I've got some that anyone is welcome to. They would be fourth bottomed as they were used for my godson then both of mine.

We'll say yes please to that. We'll at least try to start off on an eco friendly foot.
Jamanda

Surely you mean an eco-friendly bum. For an eco-friendly foot you'd need socks.

What we found worked best was to use bio-degradable/unbleached disposables for the first 6-9 months when things are really messy (and hence take lots of cleaning) and then swapped to washables.

Also the Ecover stain remover is excellent on washables.

Dont know if this is of use.

I bought a few terry nappies, some second-hand but unused Bambino Mio ones, and was fortunate enough to be given a complete set of 'birth to potty' Cotton Bottoms nappies through Freecycle.

We used a mixture of eco-disposables and muslin cloths with a 'nappy nippa' for the first few weeks. I think that when they are really tiny it can be quite hard to get the real nappies to stay on - you're learning and they are so diddy Smile.

Shouldn't be a problem at all for me. That's what wives are for isn't it? Very Happy

(albeit when we last babysat our nephews Mrs JB's response to any particularly icky nappy situation was to hold the sprog at arms length and scream for me to come and take over)

Oooooh, does she visit here at all? I bet not ... Laughing

I think it's all about doing what fits with how you are coping - I got quite bad PND when Leo was about five months old and wasn't even managing to wash *myself* let alone worry about laundry or nappies ... so we went back to using disposables. And we're just saying that once we move and are sorted and a bit more relaxed, we'll swap back to the real ones.

I like ella's house (made of hemp), motherease and cotton-bottoms, btw. I'd say get a few different ones and experiment with what you get on with before spending loads of money - even second hand ones can be quite a lot to shell out upfront. I worked out that for the amount I spent on ours, we've already got our money back - and we'll be reusing for no. 2 next month.

Mine got left behind when we moved over here at short notice Sad 3 dozen, some had done just 1 baby, some did both (needed extras whilst I had 2 babies in terries at the same time!). Only ever used disposables for days out and trips to family ("holidays" Laughing ); hated the idea of the landfill problem before it was highlighted as such, and couldn't afford the price of disposables!

Still upsets me now that they got left behind (in the "loft" above the garage).
James

we got some from The used nappy company as well.
