Selfmade Snathes for ScythesDear Community
I am looking for an artisan carpenter, woodworker in the Nottingham area.
I would like to find somebody who can make or wants to have a go at learning and making scythe snathes.
As far as I know, one has to buy handles from the continent at present.
I do know Simon Fairlie's shop, and I have contacted Transition Nottingham, so any other contact or tip would be much appreciated!

You need to contact Simon Fairlie and ask about people in the UK making their own snaths - there are a few folk, including Phil in Wales, and Steve in Oxfordshire.
Alternatively, come to next year's West Country Scythe festival and learn how to make snaths there.

Thanks Gil
how could I contact Phil and Steve?
I want to try and sell scythes and I want to find somebody locally and would want to set up an agreement or something for regular supply.
Now, for obvious reasons I would think that Simon would not be too happy if I contacted him for his suppliers
What do you think, would conventional carpenters be interested in doing this?

Mainly people in the UK are still making snaths for themselves; some, such as Phil and Steve, have more experience/skill than others. Designs for repeat production of snaths with adjustable handles are being worked on, both here and in Austria, but at the moment, people are just making them to suit themselves/their own needs.
Most of us bought our snaths ready-made from Simon Fairlie, who imports them from Austria. Though I am sure he'd like to find a UK source.
Dunno whether carpenters would be a good idea - would be OK if it were a carpenter who mowed, so knew what was needed.
UK made are mainly from roundwood.
