september sowings

Is it too late to sow Chinese Cabbage, Mibuna and Ta Tsai outside? if I sow them in seed trays do they transplant ok? these seeds are from a packet of mixed
chinese stir fry leaves that says sow April to July on the packet but I'm sure I read somewhere that later sowings suffer less from flea beetle.

Got a cold frame or some cover? They'll prosper from that when the weather turns cold. But yes, you can get away with sowing greens very late in Cambridge most years.

Couldn't half do with some rain though Sad

We've got the rain here at last, in bucket loads!!

I sowed all of the above plus rocket and mizuna outside two weeks ago, and they have come up already. Hope it works for you, the rocket will crop all winter.

rain... bring it on! pleeeease! I finished off my waterbutts last night - but I know if I put the hose on the veg patch - (which is a right old palaver involving three lengths of hose and a few leaky connectors)we'll have rain within 24 hours....
Certainly looks grey enough to rain...

good news about the rocket and mizuna Nettie - seems like its worth a go! Smile

Oh I forgot lambs lettuce, I've found it does really well over winter too, it's nice to have something bland-ish to mix in with all those spicy leaves.

did you get any yesterday ? we didn't Sad and the weather forcast lady was so happy last night telling us we were lucky to miss it and how the next few days were going to be nice and dry!

Last time I complained about lack of rain we got a wet July here and then the rain followed me down the the West Country as a punishment - am trying v hard to put up with carrying water from the house and ignoring the likely rise in the water bill Very Happy

Drizzled briefly, wasn't even enough to wet the ground Sad

Sowed joy choi, lambs lettuce, parella, all year round cauli, cabbage, some autumn sown broccolli, and spinachy stuff a week ago and all up. Will overwinter the lot under fleece in the currently part-glazed greenhouse (Embarassed) along with loads of pot sown broad beans. Some might even be edible. Especially if we remember a bit of water.

I've pretty much given up on expecting things that always grow to grow and things that don't not to!
