Sex changes in Iran...Anyone see that documentary on BBC2 last night? Amazing, of all the countries Iran would seem the least likely...

What an interesting title! Perhaps I've said too much...
Iran has a blossoming (and like cherry blossoms, beautiful and progressive) film industry.

Couldn't get it over here but saw a few clips via the net. It seemed a very progressive attitude for Iran on an issue that remains very controversial throughout the world. I did wonder if there would be any reference to psychological assessment of these wo/men but alas never got to see it.

...in a slightly warped sort of way. It would seem it is considered an "illness" that needs "treatment" in Iran, and thus the authorities have made gender change surgery relatively easily to undergo.

yeah the part where they make it easy for people to undergo sex change operations is quite progressive but the fact they are affectively forcing people who feel themselves to be one gender to change to another gender otherwise suffer punishment for their sexuality isn't terribly progressive at all

The trailers suggested that it wasn't written in the Koran so therefore it was allowable.......didn't go into much detail though.
Sounds as though it was interesting.
