shredded paper.can you use shredded paper as nesting material instead of straw? i have just shredded 3 bin bags worth, a bit too much to put on the compost heap.

I've used shredded paper before, as long as they don't have a tendancy to eat it and there aren't any staples etc amongst them I don't see why not. You can then compost it later.

I have started using it for mine - but I mixed it in with the straw at first- don't want to give them any nasty shocks (or encourage them to find somewhere else to lay) It's kind of hard but it won't have any mites lurking in it (unless they were already there ) The hens don't seem fussed.

Cab also put some in underneath his spuds when he was planting them (see? I AM paying attention!)

We've used it for bedding material for the rabbit.
She seems to quite like it!

Hi all
we use shredded paper for rabbit bedding and did use it once for a turkey we had hatched but found that he got it all caught up and it got wrapped tightly around his leg.
