Side-seam moccasinsExcuse the hairy leg
Now all I have to do is make the right mocc! It was easy once I got the pattern sized right and I should have a pair of high leg moccs by the end of the day. One settler in the days of the Mountain Men said that moccs were 'A civilised way of going barefoot'
These will be no good outdoors, the soles would wear through in no time on paved roads. I'm planning on making some more with a heavier leather sole though for more rugged use

Seriously impressive! What did you use for the sole?

It's a one-piece design, the leather for the sole is the same as the uppers. I'll need to make a seperate sole to go on once I know where it needs to be. These are going to be camp shoes or slippers They feel great!

Wow
I'd like to try something similar with our goatskins.

They are quite easy to make, the hardest part is turning them right-side out afterwards. I would suggest adding a 1/4 inch wiggle room to the pattern as the first attempt was way too tight.
*edit*
Strange, I thought I'd added the link to the tutorial. Anyway, here it is http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/15249

As someone who has tried to make stuff with rabbit skins those boots are seriously impressive. Almost as impressive as the hairy leg!

They are easy to make if you can handle a needle, the hardest thing is getting through the leather. If it's thin you can use a glovers needle (but watch you don't pink yourself, they are exceedingly sharp!) but if it's thicker you need to make the holes first, either with an awl or a drill/punch (the awl is better).
I bet they would be great in felt as slippers! The uppers are optional

Beautiful!
Great tutorial too, I'll be interested to see how you reinforce the soles on your next project.

i used to make something similar when i did LRP years ago - and we used to be runnig through woods nd such.
for outdoor use make soles out of karrimat (carry mats camping stuff) material and glue it to the bottom of the shoe with a compct adhesive.

Here's the Mk 2, suede side out and much better stitching. Still trying to figure out what to do about the garish orange-tan colour on the turndowns though.
I'm going to HAVE to get a thong cutter too, my hand cut thongs are awful! I'm going to reinforce the soles of these with rawhide (great things, dog chews ), it's been soaked and is now drying flat so I can glue it to the sole.
