Silliest mistaken identityJust come in from the garden with a third colander full of raspberries (amazing crop this year) and noticed that the sweet peas I've been lovingly tending are actually mange tout!
Ah well, not that bad a mistake, at least we can eat them. I did think there was something not quite right with the flowers last time I looked, "a bit weedy" I thought but put it down to lack of nutrients not the fact that they were pea peas not sweet peas..

I think sweet pea seeds are poisonous, so I think I'd avoid the pods too to be on the safe side.

Dunno what sort of poisonous or how dangerous though, and google didn't help much! But some seed sites carry warnings.

I've heard that as well although I used to eat the seeds when I was a child.

yep, I'd heard that as well. I think its just a mild stomach cramp sort of poison, not a hallucinate for 5 days, go blind, have total organ failure and die sort of poison.

I was told once it was one colour of sweet pea that was bad to eat- though I have no idea who by so probably totally unreliable information
